View Full Version : Europe scenery problem - help?

I just spent several days getting a European theater setup put together for the Battle for Europe campaign. But when I finally got it all loaded, I seem to have lost all of my ground scenery. I've not seen anything like this before. Anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? Thanks in advance.

Captain Kurt,

Are you using Sander's scenery, or another type. Do you have a scenery.cfg that you can provide so we can try to diagnose and fix this?

I'm sorry to say I never got Sander's scenery downloaded before the troubles. I am using a old European mesh by kghhd. But I don't think that is the problem. I disabled the mesh and got no improvement so I reactivated that.

In the meantime I found part of the problem though I don't know why it was causing the problem. I was using Richard Ludowise's C2Eurowater and when I disabled that, I got the ground tiles textures back.

However, I still have the black squares around the airfield polygons as in the second picture.

Here is the current scenery config.

That is odd. It is one of two things, I think.

Number one, there is a problem with the texture file itself and the alpha channel mask is missing- thus the entire texture file is showing instead of just the part that outlines the airfield.

The other possibility I guess is that there are two textured polygons sitting on top of each other? One which is showing properly is sitting on top of another which is showing as an entirely black square because of a missing or incorrectly named texture- it doesn't match the one being called up by the scenery bgl.

Also, check all of your game display setting and make sure everything is maxed out and that hardware acceleration is turned on and all that stuff.

Captain Kurt,

All of my European work is based on Sander's files, so if you don't have them and Rhumbaflappy's mesh files I can't guarantee that everything will work properly.

I'd be more than happy to provide you with Sander's files, and I have an install guide that explains the process.

In addition, having the areas in sequential order would be a place to start...

Captain Kurt,

Try this, go to "C:\Your Install Path\Combat Flight Simulator 2\SCENEDB\world\texture" and copy all *.bmp files. Then go to "C:\Your Install Path\Combat Flight Simulator 2\TEXTURE" and paste all the files. That should fix it.

Rami,

Thanks for the offer, I would be happy to get those files. I rearranged the cfg. file but no effect.

MR, I thought along similar lines but there are multiple fields in Achim's European airfield packs and msot of them have the same problem. I do have the graphics maxed but it has no effect.

Boatz, I do have the ground tiles back through deleting the Ludowise water files, but thank you. The problem remaining is the weirdness around the airfields.

Captain Kurt,

PM me with your e-mail and I'll send you the files tomorrow. Having said that, you'll probably want to make this an ETO only install if possible.

Captain Kurt,

The files have been sent, and I sent you a PM to that effect. I apologize for the delay, I got caught up working on "Frantic" missions.

Thanks Rami,

I just got and loaded them. They look good. I was able to fix the airfields by completely removing the files and then reloading everything. I don't know what glitched but they all work now.

Now I have another issue that occured somewhere during all of the moving of files around, reloading etc. The Free Flight, QC and Mission Builder stopped working. I am not maxed out on planes or ships - any idea what else could keep these features from working? Sigh.

Hi CK,
As you've been messing around with airfields I suggest you go into your main CFS2 file and delete the following files:-

INDEX_FILE
STR_INDEX
AIRWAY_INDEX
ICAO_INDEX
LAT_INDEX
WAYPOINT_INDEX
All your filelist.dat files
All your .cdp files

And the .cdp and filelist.dat files in any remote resource files that you may have.

All of the above WILL be re-generated by the sim on re-starting and/or using that resource.

Although you've checked, re-check carefully how many ac and ships you have, it seems (strangely?!) that everybody's sim reacts differently to different amounts. Remove ac (to a safe place) so that you have no more than say 75 (don't forget to check different camo versions within the same ac, which will increase the total amount of ac). Do the same with ships.

Re-start the sim and see if that does it. If not it still could be the amount of airfields, if you have huge amounts. If still probs and have have very large amounts of airfields, then start removing a number and see if this does the trick.

Fingers crossed you should have your QC and MB up and running again.

Cheers

Thanks Shessi. I will try all of that tonight and report back when done.

Fingers crossed.

Shessi, thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately no joy.

Maybe I need to try a brand new load from the CD and reload everything one folder at a time and see if I can spot at what poiont it quits working.

Hi CK,
Hmmmmmm????, if you've done all of the above? I still think it's a numbers game. Starting afresh is a good idea, why not make another couple of fresh copies, then as things go right or wrong move to the next one etc.

Cheers

Shessi
