Been looking at the Alphasim Seasprite for a while but felt it was too expensive, but now that the price is reduced I picked it up today and I really like it! Models, sounds and paints are all top notch and the flight model is convincing enough for me. Stable and not nearly as twitchy as some other helicopters.
It comes with five models and six textures but there's a repaint pack by Pierre Lheureux (Who also did the included liveries) at Avsim for the Fs2004 that can be fitted to the FsX model too.
Two slight negative points: It's not water landable like the real thing and the VC textures take a short moment to load.

Thanks! :)

BTW Interesting to read how the Seasprite started out with one engine and 1,000 shp but the final version had two engines and almost 3,500 shp!

I have the Alphasim Seasprite. I like it.

Interesting bit about Kaman, the company that makes the Seasprite, is also the company that made the famous Ovation guitars...

It is a fantastic model but I seem to recall it was out of scale - i wonder if they fixed it?

I think so, if memory serves me correctly ;-)

Nice pics and a very nice helo...I don't believe the Seasprite was ever intended to land on water.

THe Seasprite is not amphibious, the fuselage is too narrow and it would roll over and the floor too close to the botton of the fuselage, a design clearly not invisage to be part boat, part helo :).

I have seen photos of Seaprites in water but they are not control 'relaxed' more like hovering at power with the fuselage partially submerged.

The scale was corrected quite early on after release.

Best

One of my favorites that I roll out of the hangar from time to time, especially the fictional US Coast Guard paint.
Used to fly it a lot when Tongass X was first released.
The RealGauge VC is still one of my favorites.

The Seasprite has always had a place in my hanger. Alphasim did a fantastic model for the flight simulator. I really enjoy it.

Rgr that Michael, I was thinking something similar at work earlier today. I do have a photo in an issue of Aeroplane That shows a Seasprite in the water but it is not clear if it floats by its self.

If the pics show water affected by the downdraft then its not floating.

No, but actually it was made with a one piece hull (bottom) to facilitate floating in the event of an emergency water landing.
If I remember what I read, the requirement was to allow it to float long enough for the crew to evacuate, before it rolled over.
And I think the time requirement was it had to stay afloat for 5-10 seconds, in calm water.
I guess the Navy figured that was long enough to bail out. :icon_lol:

I'm not sure, I don't have the facts, but it seems like the Seasprite was pretty reliable.
I don't recall it having a bad reputation.
I know a good friend of mine in high school had an older brother in the Navy who worked the sonar buoys on one.
He seemed to really like the helicopter and what he was doing.

Yep, look for "alphasim_sh2_repaints_package.zip".

Don't forget to add a 'texture.cfg' file to each new repaint so you will see bumpmaps etc on the paints (As they are originally for the Fs2004 version). There are two different 'texture.cfg' files that come with the original FsX paints though, one for the 'F' and one for the 'G' model. Make sure you copy the right one to the new textures.
