Have you tried reducing the textures from 4096 to 2048? Looks just as good, but helps a lot in fps..well, me anyway. All my textures/repaints are in 2048.

I encountered an issue where the gauges won't show up on the L models so I fly the others from time to time

How does one reduce the textures? I'm guessing it's somewhere in the .ini file?

no, you'll need a graphics program like photoshop etc. ACDSee or Irfanview does it for me as well, but you'll need to convert the dds files to bmp's first.
Or try one of my textures, they are all in 2048.

Yes, I am planning a few more 15th AF paints. Just need to find the time..

I've got Irfanview, might have a play around. And I'll try one of your textures of course! :)

I still have a few bugs to iron out, but I hope to upload the bitch soon, since you seem to like her..

Meanwhile, here's 'Billy Boy', Lt.Col. Mason's aircraft.

Very nice work.....any chance you might do a baremetal with just a serial number?

jankees
August 8th, 2010, 11:44
and anti-glare panels I assume?
Dirty or clean? Those exhaust stains were there after only 20 minutes flight...
nothing easier, will take less than 20 minutes, what serial?

I thought this post was about my old girl friend from 25 years ago! LOL! Looking back, I prefer the airplane!! :)

Yes on the anti glare panels......not alot of exaust or fuel spillage. a lisghty used look with you variying metals would be awesome! You can use one of the serials you already have loaded in.....seems good to me. Guess I'll have to go buy this thing now...... : )

42-104114 was the subject of my next paintjob, so I made a 'clean' version first.
It has the Lockheed construction number on the nose, the serial on the tail, and some minor petrol and exhaust stains, as if she just arrived at Group..
Which FG? And who can tell me her regular pilot and name?

This one's odd. A search on the serial number turns up this page (http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/dbaat.asp?theAT=p-38&Submit3=Go&offset=1775), listing the a/c as flown by Lt. Lyle H. Baker of the 94th FS, 15th Air Force. Records a takeoff accident on September 25, 1944. But in other versions of the page and in searches on the serial number alone, the listing disappears - I guess I'm getting a cahched version of the page in one instance, but I don't know which.

Baker is also referenced here (http://www.1stfighter.org/warstories/yalta4.html) and there's a photo of him here (http://www.1stfighter.org/photos/pilots_94th/94P38pilotsA-H.html).

Am I in the ballpark?

EDIT: Starting here (http://www.1stfighter.org/warstories/yalta1.html) and reading the full narrative, it seems that Baker and 94th FS, 1st FG were the air escort at Gibraltar when the presidential task force went through on the way to Yalta in Feb. 1945.

94th FS was, of course, the "hat in the ring" squadron that got its start in WWI as the 103rd Aero Squadron with the likes of Rickenbacker and other Lafayette Escadrille veterans.

Still no closer to additional leads on the aircraft, though...

certainly in the ballpark, with the 94st FG/ 1st FG, though I have the pilot as Capt. Warren Campbell:

and here is a wip shot of my version:

I'm still working on a few details, but you'll get your chance to fly them too...

Sounds as though Capt. Campbell might have been a little cross with Lt. Baker one September morning...

Paint looks great - looking forward to it.

Would you ever consider an adaptation of the St. Exupery paint for the FSD Lightning? Granted it's not an F-5 so suspension of disbelief is required... but if you take it on at some point, let us know...

I did - I own it and get a lot of pleasure out of it. It's just that I give a slight edge to the FSD P-38 for flight dynamics and atmosphere, so I tend to fly it more often. But clearly a luxury request since the SU repaint is extremely good.

Speaking of extremely good, the current one's coming along nicely...

I just approved these four P-38's on OZX, so head over there now to download them.
Please note that while the main textures are in 2048 size, I have NOT included 2048 spec and bump maps for an easier download. If you want higher framerates than with the original 4096 textures, you'll have to use one of my earlier paints to find the smaller specs and bumps.
Let me know what you think?

I like them,all four.
Thanks again.
