Just taken her for a spin, awesome !
A question, do you need a registered Version of FSUIPC to hear the energizer ? FSUIPC tells me that the plane uses a feauture, that is only aviable with the registered version, and I canīt hear the energizer. The energizer.wav is in the FS9\sound folder.

Thank You so much SOH team!! It's truely been was/is an honor to be a (very small) part of the team that helped put this plane together!! It's really something I'll treasure the rest of my life! I know it may sound "cornie" but it's true; it really has been an experience to remember! I've learned a lot about what goes into creating something for FS. I've gained a new insight into my hobby that I value!! God Bless!! S/F MudMarine

Cool ! I wondered, as the panel.cfg talks of a file /gauges/A26B_sound.cfg which is defianetly not on my PC.....
Thanks in advance !
The only other plane I have which simulates the starters this way is the MAAM B-25, but only from the 2D.... So kudos for doing it this way !

Everything about this project is absolutley FIRST RATE! The model, the FM, the guages, the VC, the skins, and the sounds - This is going to be a much awarded project- FANTASTIC! Thanks to Team Invader!:jump:
I can hardly wait to see what more will come from this group! I would love to see what this group could do with a Grumman S2D Hunter Killer with civilian and fire fighter models (Hint?)! After the A-26, the S2D is my favorite - probably because I spent so much time around them aboard the Hornet, and flew cross country (hitch hiker) from North Island to Lowery in one. But, I digress!
But, If I never have another plane on my computer, the A-26 will keep me happy! JUST AWESOME!

Let me add to the many already.
AWESOME AIRCRAFT... Thanks to all involved. As others, and myself have said in the past. Not only is this a great aircraft to have modeled for FS. It was really a great opertunity to be able to have watched it grow from "Dream to Reality"... I was really impressed with the way the whole evolution evloved from start to finsh, the model, plus the way the SOH community came together as a team. Really impressive to see the way people just tossed out info and their skills, without the bitchs/moans/groans for bylines. No one seemed to care in the end who did what or how, just as long as it turned out like every other Milton Shupe lead project has been delivered. A true community project from start to finsh...
A job well done, BRAVO ZULU, to all !!! :ernae:

This is my first post ever.
At age 60 I have been on and off MSFS since the Apple II in 1986--and learning CFS2 and FS9 for 5 years since we got the first home computer.
I spent the best years of my childhood at Cherry Point and Millington watching my dad and other Corsair drivers--thus I am hooked on WWII and Korea era military iron.
This bird got my attention enough to join SOH and post this note.
Skeptic is about to download it and give it a test flight.

Congratulations team, this model is a true beauty. As an added bonus the waterbomber version C-FPGP was recently imported to Australia and lives at Archerfield, not to far from my home.
The texture readme file included indicates that DXT3 textures are available. Where can I find them please, I haven't been able to spot them in the library here.

We really appreciate the comments, thanks. I do believe that ROS's panel and gauges, DCC's sounds, Sparks' FM, JAVIS' pilot figure, Bomber's paint kit and textures, and the SOH membership that supported and involved themselves in this project from the beginning are all among the best in comparison. The repaints and mods that have come since release put icing on the cake. We all have something to be proud of. :jump:

First, congratulations to the entire A-26 team for the superb rendering of a long-neglected a/c. She is truly a worthy addition to any hangar.
I installed her 2 days ago and have not been able to solve my texture problems. In scouring the related forums, I saw M. Shupe's advice that some PCs might struggle with the 32-bit textures. A few days later M. Lloyd asked where DXT3 textures could be found and Shupe directed him to the Add-ons. I have installed 3 texture sets from that list as well as having converted "Hard to get" to DXT3, all to no avail.
Can anyone help me?

What problems are you having?
The Invader's textures load very slowly, especially noticeable in the 2-D cockpit. But the real problem is that the scenery textures either disappear or are devoid of detail. If I load some other a/c the problems go away, but come back when I reload the Invader.

Right now I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm fishing without a hook. Let's start with your system. What are it's specs?

Sounds like you may have a video driver problem, or have a very small video memory. The driver dumps the excess/high memory/detail parts of the scenery when there is not enough memory to hold it all. My older computer had this problem whenever I had any of Heather Sherman's beautiful paints in camera view. When I moved the camera away, the details would come back in about 30-45 seconds. Whenever the camera pointed back towards that aircraft, the textures would go fuzzy again. After upgrading the card to higher on-board memory, and newer drivers, the problem went away.

Simply fantastic, I currently have 37 repaints on my FSX! I believe their have been recent MDL updates - will this fix the FSX panel problem I wonder?
I know that the basic repaints had a set of thumbnails uploaded to AVSIM, would the other 30+ be of use I wonder?
I wonder who should I ask the painter of each texture OR the SOH designers?
Oh by the way here is a tip if you are using FSX. Do not bother to re-size an image to make the picture...FSX is clever enough to use any size image as long as it is called THUMBNAIL

9Right now I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm fishing without a hook. Let's start with your system. What are it's specs?
Here are my sys. specs:
WinXP Pro SP1
AMD Athlon 908MHz
512MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2GTS w/ 32MB on board
display set @ 1152x864 at 85Hz
Tot virtual mem = 1.72GB
C:\ HDD = 160GB
E:\ HDD = 40GB [FS9 & FS2002 are the only items on this drive, which has 41% free space]
Please bear in mind that I have no texture problem with any other a/c in my hangar.

Agreed that by today's standards 32MB onboard is not a great deal. But as I state above, the texture "failures" occur ONLY w/ the Invader...so it would seem that the "problem" is related to that a/c or the way I installed it. The only thing unique about its instalation that comes to mind is that I selected the engine-start gauge (removed the //) but have NOT installed the latest ver of FSUIPC. Could that be it?

A quick way to find out is to edit the gauge back out and see if that improves anything.
As far as having no problems with other planes in your hanger, again you're leaving us to speculate with out enough information. What planes are in your hanger, are they default MS or addons and if add ons by whom?
What programs are running in the back ground while your in FS9?

Two a/c that I have interjected into my A-26 flights are the C-46 by L. Guzman et al & the Alphasim A-20. I did that yesterday and again just a few minutes ago (after having deactivated the engine-start gauge, which, btw, had no effect on the problem). The results are unchanged: with the Invader, the textures are slow to load and the scenery textures missing or lacking detail; with the other two a/c (& a few others I haven't mentioned) all is well.
I run nothing in the background while in FS. There are only 4 items in my system tray: Windows Messenger, Auto. Updates, Norton Internet Sec. & Norton AV. The 2 Nortons are deactivated; the other 2 items I cannot remove from the tray. That is how I fly.

Hawkeye,
I have the same issue on my OMB GPU with 64MB but let's look at sizes of the files of the A-26 against your 32MB videoshared memory. This is a "heavy" aircraft for video demand on our systems.
Model = 2.5MB
Panel = 10MB
Sounds= 10.5MB
Textures=38MB
Total=60MB just for the aircraft.
I understand why my computer has the problem with 64MB memory so with your 32MB, I think I understand that as well.
I converted all 1024X1024 4MB textures to DXT3 reducing each from 4MB to 1MB.
All the 512X512 32-bit 1MB textures converted to DXT3 reduces them to 256K.
You can also reduce vc01_L.bmp to 256X256 saving a heap from 1MB to 65K. You might also look at reducing the sizes of the fuseinner, a26parts and vcinterior from 1024 to 512 for more savings.
If you convert the textures this way, the texture requirements drop from 38MB to 12.5MB.
Further, if you convert all 32-bit to DXT3 you have a further reduction.
This helped me tremendously. You might try it.
Edit: I also reduced the panel bmps of vc01.bmp and a26 panel.bmp to half their sizes and converted to 8-bit. This reduced my panel requirements from 10.5MB to 4.6MB. My old eyes can;t see any major differences.
So, if you do all the recommendations above, your video demand changes from 60MB to 32MB.

I want to thank ROS and modelr for their help in identifying my problem (too little video mem) and Milton S for suggesting a work-around. In the process I've learned more than I had planned :redf:
Btw, after resizing texture files, what is the best way to convert them to 8-bit?
Milton Shupe
April 20th, 2007, 00:29
I use Imagetool for the 8-bit conversion. Comes with Gmax and FS9.
hawkeye52
April 20th, 2007, 18:13
I converted a26Panel.bmp and vc01.bmp (after first having re-sized them) to 8-bit using ImageTool and voilá, no distortion in a26Panel. Btw, the only diff I noticed in the 8-bit textures was a loss of detail in the Camel package.
Thanks for all your assistance.

I downloaded the SOH A-26 Invader package last night and flew all the model variants. My congratulations to all those involved in the creation and implementation of the project. I've been a pilot for nearly 40 years and can vouch for the realism of the SOH Invader's flight characteristics--right down to the "thumpy" landing if you don't carry a little power to the point of touchdown. Thanks again for giving all of us in the flight sim community such a beautiful airplane.

This is one of the best freeware aircraft I have now. I enjoy this one as much as my WoP aircraft, same quality too. (Hope that is taken as a compliment)
The panels are really good and the best gauge has the "Old Salt" photo. A really nice touch I must say. And the pilot detail, very nice.

Jan Visser did a terrific job designing that pilot for the A-26B/C. While flying his wing
(or as some would say chase view) it still rattles my mine about how real that little
guy looks as he moves about scanning the horizon and his cockpit.

Can anybody tell me how to get nosewheel steering to work in these beasts? I have checked the readmes as well as I can...(wife says Im blind!) and I cant see how to activate it. I dont use rudders in the sim cause mine are broken right now (need new potentiometor.) So I have rudders set to autorudder at the moment in FS9. (not using FSX).

Wow! Great plane! Thanks to all involved! I just watched Always again the other night and thought just how cool these planes were and the next time I go looking for Flight Sim add-ons, how amazing is it to find such a beauty and just what I was thinking about!
Great work!

Hello at all,
I’m a new Member and this is my first comment here. After registration I first downloaded the A-26. A great modell - thx a lot for this.
And now my problem begun. I own a very old PC, it’s a P733 with an ATI Radeon 7500 (64 mb) and 512 DDR Ram.
Even the AI (low texture) Skins make it for me easier to fly this Plane. A lot of texture problems were always there. The most of all were ground texture problems
Than I had an idea. I deacreased the textures (Aircrafttextures) from 16 mio colours to 256 and put the AI modell file in the Aircraft folder (overwrite the old and renamed it)..
The result was I can fly the the A-26 without problems. The only thing is, I can’t see the VC and theres is no Pilot in the outside view.
This is a very poor solution for poor man like me. I know. But it’s better than nothing for user with very low end PC like me. I guess even Fred Flintstone has a better one like me :costumes:
Just joined today. Downloaded the A-26 this morning and she flys like a dream. She will fit right in with the rest of my assorted fleet. First time here, I am enjoying your site.

I downloaded the autoinstaller Fs9 and redirected it to FSX; It put the folder in aircraft, on the first tree, from there I copied it to simobjects/airplanes and all seems well. It's not as framerate friendly as I expected or have read here in the forum. The Sperry a/p is a headache for me...
Is there an specific FSX version?

Recently I added this aircraft to my collection. After piloting it early one morning and observing the rising sun glint off of it from every conceivable angle I felt compelled to write. It is a masterwork and everyone involved should feel proud. To all of you who labored in bringing it to fruition I offer a sincere thank you.
