Hey All,

Before the British invasion of 1964 there was another form of music called Doo Wop - Anybody here remember it? Here are a few of my favorites.

When I was a kid in the 50's, I remember when teens would hang out on the corner and sing the latest doo-wop hits accapella. I used to lay in bed at night and listen to Cousin Brucie and Alan Freed on my crystal radio and hear all the latest tunes.

Who could forget the tight vocal harmonies of groups like the Platters, the Imperials, the Cleftones, and the clowns of doo-wop, the Coasters and the Cadillacs?

Sigh... Of course that was back in the day when music was actually musical... Of course the lyrics were great too... Sho dop shoby do. Shama lama ding dong. What poetry!

Tarpsbird, thanks for posting that vid of Dion & The Belmonts! Sure brings back some memories. Every day after school my friends and I would put on Bandstand at 4:00, back when it was being broadcast live from Philly. We would stand in front of the TV and try to copy the latest dance moves. Ya gotta love those "IFIC" buttons! LOL!

Hey dad. Actually when I said "beautiful music" I was referring to the posts aforementioned, specifically those circa 1950. But I like the song I posted too.

She was pretty cute when she was a Mouseketeer, but those beach movies were pretty lame. The only good thing was that they had Dick Dale's band in them...
