While waiting to refuel, I had a chance to take a picture of this.

That's actually a Grumman Widgeon - still very nice though!

Edit: I just noticed that this is the same Widgeon that I have been up-close in person with a couple of times, here in Minnesota, though it has had some changes to it since the last time I saw it - the same time this photo was taken of it: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Grumman-G-44-Widgeon/0882530/L/ (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Grumman-G-44-Widgeon/0882530/L/)

I wonder what's the story with the Vietnam service ribbons on the engine nacelle?

The French were very much a part of Vietnam in the early days. After all, they were a French colony. The French also flew the French version of the Junker JU52 tri-motors in Vietnam. They were called Toucans.

Those are American Vietnam Service Ribbons on the nacelle. Perhaps the pilot is a Vietnam Vet. Looks like there are some wings above the service ribbons as well, so maybe he was a pilot in the Vietnam War.

They look like silver wings, which would be Air Force. Good eyes, OBIO! I missed that first glance.

I took a look at those decorations by blowing up the image with Irfanview until the resolution started to fail. I'm pretty sure that those silver wings are US Army, either pilot's wings or air crewman wings. They are the same in form and size except for the detail in the center of the shield of the badge.

The ribbons, in order of precedence are: Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal (an enlisted man's award); National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry; Vietnam Campaign Medal.

The last two, bottom row on the right, the Cross of Gallantry and the Vietnam Campaign Medal are actually awards of the former South Vietnamese Government, and thus, like all foreign awards to US Servicemen, are at the bottom of the order of precedence. As the Good Conduct Medal is an enlisted man's decoration, It would be safe to bet that the wings above the ribbons are those of an air crewman.

"Hoo ahh" to our Widgeon pilot and his previous adventures and sacrafices on behalf of all of us.

Is that paint for Paul Clawson's duck? Where is it?

Sorry to disappoint, but that's an actual photo of a Grumman Duck. :frown:
I wish my FSX looked that good...

Indeed that is a Widgeon, which I should have know. There are a couple others for sale in the area.

Here is a higher resolution image of the decorations painted on it. I will try for a better picture when I get a chance.

One of the closer things to a goose in this thread...

Mfitch,

Your blow up has much better resolution than what I did. I can see now that the ribbon that I thought was the Cross of Gallantry (bottom row, center), is in fact something else. I don't recognize it, but I'm pretty sure that it is a foreign award as it doesn't match up with any US award that I'm familiar with.
