Orbx is pleased to announce the release of 3W5 and WA56. Beautiful Skagit County hosts Concrete Municipal Airport which shares real estate with the high school set in the center of the town of Concrete. The Orbx duo of Andreas Hegi and Heiko Glatthorn (Hervey Bay, Darrington) continue to impress with their fanatical attention to detail. You will enjoy exploring the whole town including the gray tall Portland Superior Cement Silos, some of the numerious local churches, gas stations, coffee stand, local grocer, Lower Baker Dam, the Old Town of Concrete and many buildings accurately modeled. The airport itself is a perfect rendition of the real thing, based on hundreds of photos taken on site. As a bonus for 3W5 customers, Orbx is giving away completely free WA56 Israel's Farm at Sedro-Woolley, which is located 15 miles east of Concrete. This private strip features 30 km sq. of photoreal 5-seasons image, incredible long grass for an authentic grass strip feel and custom modeled objects based on hundreds of photos taken on-site. This free airport offer only applies during the month of July. More information at http://ftxnow.com <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I'm sure when this was released, or even prior to that, there was information on the coverage area. I've looked everywhere I can think of on the Home page and find nothing, other than a postage stamp sized map that indicates a "general" area of coverage. Is there anything more detailed?

If you mean the KML file that shows all PNW goodies it can be found here:
http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=15897.0

For a general overview I have made an own KMZ file which shows Orbx's releases (blue), planned releases (yellow) and Ozx planned freeware (red) in the Puget Sound area:

Thanks Volker, but that link no longer has the attachment for the KML file. . .or at least I didn't see the file referenced in the first post. It says save the attachment "below". . .but there isn't any that I could see. Anyway, I found a reference on an old AVsim review that showed enough of the "Total Coverage Area" to answer my original question.

Another question though. . .is there any other site/store offering the PNW download that uses Paypal? Due to certain circumstances I cannot do a debit/credit card transaction. . .only a paypal payment using my checking account number and it appears that Orbyx has limited the sales to Credit or Debit card only transactions and only through one distributor.

Ed,
perhaps I misunderstood your comment about PayPal, but I believe SimWare and the FlightSim Pilot Shop both accept PayPal and list the base PNW package on their websites.

Yep, but when you get to the paypal screen, it will only accept a debit/credit card number. . .not your checking account number and due to financial circumstances I can't use a card number anymore, so unless they allow for the paypal system they're using to opt for the checking account number. . .I'm out of the loop (and I would think so are quite a few others). Also, why is the Pilot Shop $25.00 higher on their price?

That's strange - when I used to have a PayPal account, any purchase I tried to make resulted in a screen which offered both the use of a credit card and my account. Anyway, just came across the PC Aviator sale, where the product is listed at $39.95 and at "15% off". I don't know whether that makes it about $34, but they also list PayPal.

Well, that's a box version which I'm not interested in messing with. The other was a download version. I didn't bother going any further with the purchase so I don't know if it would accept a checking account vs a card number.

Personally, I'm wondering why Orbx hasn't produced a set price for this addon. . .why is it that every Store seems to charge what they want?

Thanks Rohan, but I was aware of the Bank Transfer and that's not what I want to do. For every other company I have ever purchased from and used Paypal, I was able to simply use my Bank Account number rather than the Debit Card (it comes out of the same account after all) and the process was instantaneous. . .no hassle. . . I was downloading in a few minutes. I don't understand why Orbyx has to be different and not allow the Bank Acct Number method.

Not like they're losing anything really I'm just one person and since I've not seen anyone else complain about it, apparently I'm the only one who finds it inconvenient.

Thanks again for checking into it, I appreciate your time.:salute:

We approached them last year but got no answer to our emails. We have about 8 DVD resellers worldwide and that channel is growing all the time. But we only sell our downloadable products through the Flightsimstore.com.

3W5/WA56 will be available on boxed DVD at our resellers from August 1st.

Just one more question. At Flightsim.com, they say you have to have ORBX North America Blue installed first before installing the Concrete and Israel scenery packages. I do not have that. Should I first then get the NA Blue and then the Concrete and Israel packages?

Sorry for all the questions.

Oh yes Bill, Orbx PNW Blue is the best add-on scenery package for FSX out there, well worth the price of admission. I find myself flying nowhere else in FSX! Once you get the add-on and install it, get Orbx's Vashon Island (free). I love to fly the islands in Puget Sound in Piglet's MAI-890 or the default Trike.

Absolutely, Bill. The NA Blue package is the base on which the individual PNW airports are built. You'll find the flying experience much more rewarding if you've got NA Blue first.

Hi Bill,

That's correct; to echo Bill Womack and others, the Orbx addon airports are not designed for Default FSX, but our base terrain addon regions, such as PNW. You are welcome to install them over Default FSX but they won't blend into their surrounds and you'll also miss out on a lot of the tech like 3D lighting and correctly aligned roads, rivers, shores and custom autogen.

So it's best to purchase and install PNW and then grab 3W5 while the July promotion is on to give you WA56 for free. I can also recommend Bill Womack's 7S3 Twin Oaks, and we have a freeware airport 2S1 Vashon Muni available from http://fullterrain.com/freeware.html

Also, the team over at OZx are about to release a whole bunch of beautiful photoreal freeware airstrips for PNW.

There's plenty to do now, and a whole lot more to come very soon.

Hope this clarifies.

These airports are just fantastic! I live in this area and every time I drive down I-5 towards Seattle I go by Sedro Woolley where Israel's Farm is and look up that valley towards Concrete. The sim is the same as the real world.

But, what I like better than anything is the way these strips hide from you, instead of standing out from miles away like default FSX. Bill's Plum Island is great this way too, as is his Twin Oaks. Darrington is also. Most of my real flying career was in a 2 pilot crew in a corporate turboprop going into small uncontrolled fields. They are hard to find. You're driving towards the runway at a good clip, with all the available nav aids telling you where it is, and both pilots are trying to pick it out. In the back of your mind there's this little voice telling you not to screw up and have to circle around looking for the darned thing. But, you finally see it and land.

When you go into a place multiple times, you begin to pick out landmarks like the way the river bends around Israel's Farm and those rows of metal buildings off the end of the runway. Pretty hard to do that in default FSX and now it's so natural, just the way it is in real life. It's really really good.

cheers,
steve :wavey:

JayKae and Koorby,

I am SO looking forward to getting the Orbx PNW stuff that it's almost unbearable for me to look at the topics related to them.
...Every time, and I DO mean every time I see one of your posts related to it, it brings a long, awe inspiring smile to my face to see the realism in the scenery. It's just amazing to see the bits and pieces come together throughout the area.

I had hoped by now I would be enjoying what just keeps getting better. And the more enhancements you release for the Northwest, the more content I'll be. I just hope to see more out-lying stuff throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada that fills in the vastness of the evergreen region.

Personally, I would enjoy seeing immense detail in more wilderness area. Summit Lake, Wynoochee Dam and the valley below it, Lake Quinault, Lake Crescent and Lake Ozette to name just a few.
...I don't know if the areas I've mentioned are the type of criteria your team has ever considered. But all of them, especially Lake Quinault are the most beautiful areas in the region.

Here are two links of interest;

To be clear, I wanted to show helicopter the mini-mission available with the Darrington scenery, being a rotorhead. :icon_lol:
It is a rescue one. I really hope to get Darrington soon.
And I really like the video too.
So that is not me flying in the video, but whoever is, definitely shows the skills that are possible to have in FSX.

But you know what the heck, I am going to be proud today, and say yes, yes I can do that as well thank you very much. :salute:
With practice anyone can.

Additionally, there are 30+ Fire Towers available spread throughout the base PNW scenery.
Each one has a helipad like in the video.
Some are rather, let's say, 'interesting'.
In fact we were flying to the ones just south of the Canadian border last night on the Hovercontrol flight server.
(Attached pic is me on the Winchester Peak pad)

All of the helipad locations are included in the Google Earth file from FTX
http://fullterrain.com/media/FTX_PNW_NA_Blue_KML_Version_1.4.2.zip

Anyone interested in flying helicopters with others via FS9 or FSX is welcome over on the Hovercontrol server!
