Oh Man. . .I'm not a fan of the extremely slow aircraft of old. . .but this just seems to be one that will be a must have just on general principles, lol. Beautiful job. . .love the prop.:salute:

I'm not a fan of the extremely slow aircraft

With a cruise speed of approx 95mph, it'll keep up with a lot of modern GA :jump:

I'm strictly a VC guy, and that is cockpit is wonderful.

But truthfully, my first impulse was I'd buy it for the prop detail alone. :icon_lol:

I think I can see why some guys just buy cars and planes and never fly 'em.
Just rub them with a soft diaper everyday. Admire them.
That S.E.5 ranks right up there.... :applause:

I think it looks fantastic. The only reason why I would not purchase is that in Rise Of Flight i already have one that flies, shots fokker and even crashes!!

It is great to finally see another FSX native WW-I fighter as there aren't many around yet!

Every stitch put in by hand you know...;)

Changing that mag in a dogfight would have been suicidal.

The list is:

Geared Hispano Suiza "Hisso" twin blade and fourblade props
Geared Hispano Suiza "Hisso" short stack exhaust as flown by McCudden VC
Wolseley Viper twin blade
Wolseley Viper Four Blade

Interesting info on colour. Apparently the shade used varied immensely and when in the field would weather from a brackish green to dark chocolate. The first "colour-change" finish?...

This aeroplane is right up my alley! I live for vintage aircraft, and the work on this one looks absolutely superb! :)

I'm especially glad your doing the early Se.5 version. Personally I think it was the best looking of the breed, the tapered nose with the 150hp Hispano-Suiza being far more pleasing to the eye than the boxy 220hp Wolsey Viper.

Will be watching for it's release with great anticipation! :)

Well we have the Viper also just to ring the changes. Agreed, the Hisso is the better looking I think. The Viper looks as if the radiator was an afterthought! Still, it got the job done and was far more reliable in the field than the Hispano.

I have heard of something called an SE6 which apparently was a sort of SE5B with a retractable radiator and streamlined nose. Only the prototype was built as production came to an end at the end of the war. Does anyone have any more info?

Nice work guys, but seems an odd choice for FSX when there is already a native one on the market. With such a limited selection of WWI aircraft to chose from, I presume this model is based on a personal passion for the aircraft?

Either way...:applause:

Will definitely be getting this. I was watching a programme the other night about McCudden and thinking that I should look out for an SE5A in FSX and this comes right along - perfect!

This makes up for having to work this weekend :)

Gorgeous screenshots Martyn! :)

Baz, the following is taken from Squadron/Signals Publication Aircraft Number 49 " Se.5a in Action"

"Only one true development of the S.E.5a was constructed. Known as the S.E.5b, it featured longer upper wings: 30 feet 6 inches with a chord of 6 feet; shorter lower wings: 26 feet 6 inches with a chord of 4 feet 3 inches. The interplane struts had a very pronounced outward rake. A large round spinner was fitted over a two bladed propellor that blended into a streamlined nose.
Powered by a 200 hp direct drive Aires Hispano-Suiza engine with an underslung radiator that swung backward and could be partially retracted, the S.E.5b's performance was found to be not as good as that of the S.E.5s. Unfortunately the larger upper wings created additional drag, negating the benefits of the streamlined nose and shorter lower wings.
When later fitted with the standard S.E.5a wings it's performance improved, but not by very much. The S.E.5b remained at Farnborough for a number of years where it was often flown experimentally."

The Publication also has a nice black and white picture of the S.E.5b, plus a thrre-plan drawing. :)

Hi Nick, what's the other native on the market?

Hi Baz, it was the first native FSX model from Alphasim. made by Dan. I think it was released around late 2006, early 2007, certainly there was bugger all available for FSX at the time.

http://www.screenshotartist.co.uk/alphasim_se5a.htm

At the time of release I thought the VC looked fantastic, but gosh haven't things moved on in such a short period of time! Still a nice plane though.

Baz, please, continue on.
...No offense meant towards anyone who posted. But that other native can't compare to what is displayed in the main topic.

FSX is shining more and more every day

More than welcome mate, looking forward to this one. Any thoughts on a little period field to go with it, or perhaps a few trenches on the northern front to fight over?

Absolutely wizard! Can't wait.
I hope, Baz, that your next 'Rolling Out' announcement will quote Capt. W.E. Johns - "The Camels are coming".

One wing good - two wings better.

Loving the look of this, and indeed- the AS one won't compare, but then it is very old (and was one of, if not the first FSX release).
