My father, Arnold Douglas Ward, passed away in 1993. My younger sister and I often swap stories about him when we're together (which is not all that often). Recently, she told me one I'd not heard before. It was so special, I had her write down the details.

Dad had suffered a stroke, and had gone through weeks and weeks of therapy. He had to relearn how to walk and talk all over again. There were several doctors and specialists involved in his recovery, and after several months, they scheduled a meeting with my dad to discuss his progress.

Each of the doctors and specialists took turns, telling my dad how he had done throughout the therapy, and their prognosis for further progress.

My dad sat there, listening intently to each of them. When they were all finished, he cleared his throat and spoke the following words (while looking at each person face to face):

"The successful recovery of the patient is in direct proportion to the caring efforts of the caretakers, physicians, and therapists."

There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
