Me thinks an A900, a 24-70 and a 16-35 from Carl Zeiss would do the job at half the price (Sony's A900 is way cheaper than the D3X - the sensor is the same anyway...) ;). If you know how freakin' expensive that D3X is...would love an A900 with a 300 f/2.8 G SSM.
I wonder about the VR, too.

They use stabilization all the time to keep the platform oriented correctly. So the image should come out better. ;)
