View Full Version : Contact Points; I'm Stumped

Hi All,
This one has really got me bonkers.
I'm trying to tune in the contact points on the C-46 conversion of J R Lucariny's model.

In the original packaged zip from SOH the tail wheel would sink into the earth if one taxied off the runway onto CFS2's terra firma. Only this model. Others I tried were Ok.

So the next step was opening her up in ACM to set the contact points. They are adjusted as seen in the first picture. Seemss like everything looked kosher.

The next time she was loaded in the sim the tail wheel was fine but now the main gear sinks no matter where the plane is. Runway or tarmac. Then she explodes. The last three pics.

I checked the C-46 out in FS9 so I am not sure how this will work in CFS2. Your contacts on the mains and tail wheel were dead on. Point.6 as a wheel seems to be the problem. In the original .cfg point.6 was a scrape. I changed it back to the original values and the airplane sat on the ground ok. The tail wheel was up a bit so I changed it slightly. Try these values and see if this helps.

PS. If you ever have trouble sleeping, count contact points.

That was the problem, scrape point as a wheel. doh!

Those numbers you provided worked...like a charm.

I am glad it worked. I use Airwrench and the same thing has happened to me. On one occasion, the program changed a scrape to a float on the Z. 511 and things got real interesting.

I've scrapped my share of planes that did the "Jump and Dive", and THIS sounds exactly why they crashed.

Hurricane, Can You Please re-post your changes and highlight the points changed in RED ? I will add the info to my growing file of "How To Save 'Ums" !

DV ... I know this is probably heresy, I had a similar problem, but with the tail wheel. All worked fine in my test bed ... but in my Pearl Harbor install ... once she picked up a little speed ... a gyrating second plane appeared, then dust from the tail wheel area ... then she burys her butt into the runway ... nose up at about 60 degrees!

I finally solved the problem by swapping part of the C-47 contact points. It's a hybrid ... but it works like a charm for me. Takes off and flies nicely ... lands good too! Drop me a PM and I'll send the whole damned a/c over to you if you want.

The only point I adjusted was the tailwheel height in red. The point.6 values in green were from the original .cfg contacts. Dave did all of the rest.

I just did a side by side of both lines #6 and see where the difference was !

It was the DESIGNATION number at the beginning of the string that caused the challenge:

1 = Contact Point

2 = Scrape Point !

Hey There Bill and Y'all,
Thanks for the offer on your hybrid. But I think (hope) it's dialed in pretty good now. Thanks all the same though. :ernae:

A while back, this stuff was almost impossible to comprehend. But having a visual in ACM makes it all much easier.

This is what I'm using now with a few minor changes to the compression.
Also a Lights entry you can add to the aircraft.cfg for cockpit lighting at night. It's only seen from the spot view external, because of no Vc.
