A good day to everybody! :wavey:
Last night I uploaded a Korean conflict historical repaint for Yasuhiko Sasaki's, a.k.a. Yashico, Boeing B-29 AI available at:
http://yashico.cool.ne.jp/html/aircraft.html
This repaint depicts Boeing B-29A-60-BW, 44-62183, "Hot To Go" of 28th BS, 19th BG, based at Kadena, Okinawa, in 1951.
I stated many times I am not a repainter. Sometimes, if the aircraft textures aren't too complicated I can act, or fake, as one. In this case the repaint is a "AI quality" type, when the aircraft can only be seen from another plane and it looks good enough.
This excellent AI model is, for some reason, severely neglected by our many talented repainters and it's a pity because in both WWII PTO and Korea large B-29 formations were used. This is the best AI B-29 I ever tried in terms of framerate performance. Although the propeller blades are entirely missing, I was able to create blurred propellers that will show up as soon as the engines are started or during any AI flight.
If you want to check your new B-29A livery directly in Free Flight without having to create a new mission or adding it to your Quick Combat list, then you'll need to change a specific record in Yashico's B-29A airfile in order to turn this aircraft from an unflyable AI/computer controlled aircraft into a flyable one.
To do so, you'll need an airfile editor utility such as AirEd, which you can find either here or at www.simviation.com (http://www.simviation.com) in the CFS2 Utilities section. Open "B29A_AI.air" with your editor; among the very first records you will find one called "Aircraft type="; change the number from 2 (computer-controlled AI model) to 0 (user flyable) and save the airfile. Now it will show up in the Free Flight list and you can fly it.
Keep in mind this model is destined to be an AI plane, therefore, you will see it "floating" over the runway with no undercarriage, no propellers, no interiors, no animated parts, no Virtual Cockpit and showing very simple, essential details. If you want to fly it, you'll have to alias its panel to another B-29, or fly it using CFS2 HUD.
By the same token, I can guarantee you that, either seen from an escorting Allied plane or in the gunsight of an attacking North Korean fighter, wearing this historically correct repaint, it will look as good as any B-29 designed to be user-flown with tons of details, VC and all the works we can expect from an addon plane. Such an "eye-candy" complex model, in turn, will slow CFS2 animation performance down to a crawl, when used in numbers larger than three or four tops.
When returning Yashico's B-29A to its AI role, don't forget to get rid of the 2-d panel alias you might have created, as 2-d and VC panels will influence negatively an AI framerate with their gauges, thus killing the very purpose it was built for.
Many, many thanks to Oldwheat for having sent me a bunch of Korean time B-29 profiles: without them I wouldn't have not been able to accomplish this repaint!
Enjoy!

PS.: Sorry for not posting any preview, but I am still unable to do so. My "Manage Attachments" window is totally inactive.
