Asus and MSI introduced on Monday at the Computex show in Taipei new tablet computers, designed to compete with Apple's iPad (http://www.pcworld.com/article/187956/hands_on_with_the_apple_ipad.html). The new tablets will run on various versions of Microsoft's Windows 7 OS, with customized user interfaces, and feature a variety of ports, like USB, HDMI and card readers.

Now we are getting closer to what I want. Something old, something new. USB, HDMI and the ability to store my data on the pad.

John~ Thank you for posting this link. It helped me make the decision to wait some more before I purchase my next gadget. With that said, I must admit that I am quite enthralled with the iPad. It really is a nice "toy"! However, if I had the option to buy a similar window-based pad, I would probably buy it vs. the iPad.

Now that I have read this PC World article, I have decided to wait another 6+ months before making a decision. Let's see exactly what ASUS and MSI will come up with and how competitive of a product it will be.

Lol, if the eeepad really has a core 2 duo, that would be epic. The processing power vs. the iPad wouldn't even be in the same galaxy. I'll definitely keep my eye out for that one! I loved my eee 1000h.

However having to adopt yet another app store with its own DRM doesn't sound too nice. Since I've already invested in some things on the Apple side for my ipod, maybe it would be better to wait for a v2 iPad...

I'm keeping an eye on the eepad too. But I really want to hear an unbiased report of battery life first. Hope that it doesn't get canceled too!
