I think there's another B-17 on the airshow circuit wearing the Memphis Belle paint scheme.

Edit: Found this over at wiki

A former firebomber B-17G-85-DL, serial 44-83546, registered N3703G, was converted into a B-17F configuration by installing a Sperry top turret, early-style tail gunner's compartment and waist gunner's positions, and omitting the chin turret (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chin_turret&action=edit&redlink=1). It subsequently appeared in the 1990 fictionalized version (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memphis_Belle_%28film%29) of the Memphis Belle story and continues to make air show appearances in that guise. Originally painted with the Warner Bros. movie version of the nose art and markings, the B-17 (owned by David Tallichet) now carries the historic markings found on the actual Memphis Belle. It currently operates out of Geneseo, New York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneseo,_New_York).

I saw that, Dave! I thought the same thing: "whoa ... wait ... that nose art looks like Memphis Belle ... !" And the two Mustangs on either wing. That was cool. (Good Intel, Willy!)

lol did any of you get a chuckle when the announcers for the Indy 500 were describing the F18s making a 'supersonic' pass when they were clearly going much much slower LOL.

The reproduction of the Memphis Belle has similar nose art to the original, but not the same. The easiest way to tell is on the reproduction the words Memphis Belle are in script, while on the original they are block (for the want of a better font designator). It was that way in the movie also. The girl on the original is wearing blue, but on the reproduction she is wearing red.

They were also forced by the United States Air Force, particularly the general at the Air Force Museum, to change the name of the aircraft to, The Movie Memphis Belle because too many people thought that aircraft was the real deal.... Stupid I think....

On the real Memphis Belle, the belle is dressed in blue on the port side and red on the starboard side.

She flew over Roanoke late this morning. I missed it. :( Saw it on TV at the race though! :)

Has anybody seen a video or still of the flyover? This is what I found on youtube... The flyover for the Sprint Race that weekend was a formation of F-15's... This is what flew over the Nationwide Race...

However, it is not a B-17... At the 30 second mark...Looks like a C-47, a Skyraider, and a T-6??? Not sure about that last one. Any thoughts???

The B-17 & P-51 fly over wasn't during the national anthem. It was at some point during the pre-race stuff. They turned the camera on the formation only for a couple of seconds.
