I am curious about the trackIR 4 pro for aiding in combat flight sims experience. Has anyone used this or know of anyone that has and if they're underlying conflicts with the pc ( graphics, sound, etc.) to be aware of. Sounds like a great idea if its pretty stable and compatible with a wide variety of motherboards, graphic cards and so on. Thanks for any input.

I know we have a number of members who are fairly enthuiastic about the Track IR systems. I haven't tried it in any of the combat sims but expect that it would add a great deal to the realism and imersion. As you move your head around the cockpit, it almost seems to achieve a 3D effect as all the parts move in relation to each other.

The only issue that I might see is that it might be necessary to go to the 2D view to get proper and reliable alignment with a weapons system sight.

I suggest that you post in the CFS2 and CFS3 forums to get their input on these applications. A lot of helpful people there!

Welcome aboard:

TrackIR doesn't work with CFS2 (to my knowledge anyway), but I find it as useful in CFS3 as I do in FS9. It does take a bit of aclimating to for CFS3, but I've been a virtual (3D) cockpit flier since the early days of CFS2 so the transition from 2D panel to 3D panel flying wasn't difficult for me.

I know TrackIR is popular with the IL2 fliers too, but I haven't had any experience with that game yet...waiting until I finish building my new rig.

I haven't had any stability problems or performance hit with it on either my gaming rig (2.1GHz Athlon XP with an Nvidia6600) or my laptop (1.4GHz Centrino w/GF420Go). I haven't used it on an ATi card, but I don't remember hearing of any issues with those cards either.

As fliger suggests, you might want to try a search in one of the game-specific forums up the front page a ways for any game-specific tips or issues.

And lastly...welcome to Sim-Outhouse!

HeHe... Don't get me started on the single most important peripheal for a flight sim besides a joystick.

And that is just what it is too.

Flying with it you forget you are in a game. The immersion is increadible! It is sooo much easier to track aircraft with it.

The only issues are an occosional stutter in game due to sudden sweaping view changes in graphic intensive situations (won't be an issue with a better computer) and in some planes pieces are "missing" because the designer wasn't planning on anyone being able to look at em from the VC.
Also for combat sims you have to add enough of a "dead zone" into the settings so that it is easier to stay aligned with the sight correctly.

I mainly fly in FS9 and will not use any aircraft that does not have a VC I am just too used to flying from it with the TrackIr can't fly from 2D panel.
