Pootling around the Aegean...this one's a short hop from some of the Greek islands.
Very nice 2010 update, a military and civilian split, with some nice military AI thrown in.
I removed some static aircraft but couldn't find them all, so am left with a Delta 737 and one from Cayman airlines!

Aegean is my home area :) Turkey only borders it :) the Αιγαίο Πέλαγος is mostly Greek and Turkish military are usually under orders to not fly into Greek controlled airspace unless transiting, otherwise the HAF F-16s and Mirage 2000's get sent up to play... so make sure if you plan to tour the aegean islands use a nice plane (not a turkish mil one) or i'll have to virtually scamble and come hunting :icon_lol: if you fly from Bodrum to Kos, thats my neck of the woods, a few miles of water is all that seperate the 2 opposing sides, once a Ko-an always a Ko-an ;)

Great Shots there though. :ernae: just to show you where the border is between Greek and Turkish Aegean.... on that map when you find kos you'll see a labelled lake, thats the salt-lake in Tigaki, my home town (Was a village)

Oho..a little geography lesson...
By gum, there it is!
And an AES-supported airport to hand.
And there's the salt lake - how did that come about, a little uplift on the beach?

If you take off from Rhodos you are aiming straight at Dalaman LTBS in Turkey.
I guess I transgressed there, you'd need a 6g turn to stay in Greek airspace.

now that Sir is a Greek airplane! yeah the salt lake is great been across it a fair few times on my bike which i keep out there, flamingos love that salt lake... and that you have ringed would be the old salt processing plant which was converted to a trendy bar... heres some pics of Tigaki, kinda a taster...

strangely looking at images of home makes me want to make scenery of it... :icon_lol: keep on trucking with the 348MPA Phantom and happy landings, approach for kos can be tricky, if i recall runway 33 has a threshold close to a slightly hilly area so don't get too low ... just as a side not the spinal mountain range on Kos is Mt. Dikeos (Climbed it a few times), and the island of Nisyros... it's a dormant volcano :)

Great photos, thanks!
Puts a whole new perspective on my upcoming Greek tour.
It was going to look like this, but there's going to have to be a kink in the leg down to Rhodos!

And this Turkish thread has just been highjacked - now I understand... :d

had it for years buddy :wiggle: doesn't add the salt lake to kos but makes greece oh so much better, i pointed Obio towards this, i don't think he has left Ελλάδα yet... apart from going to washington :icon_lol: if you do get it you won't see the salt lake on Kos, but the greek valleys (most notably near LGPZ) really come to life. only way i've seen the salt lake on Kos is with Aerosofts 'Kos 2005' product... but i can whole heartedly recommend the HSP stuff... just no landing your Choppers in Nisyros' largest Crater (Stefanos, and yes you can walk on it, and i have done many times).

And wing_Z sorry...Greeks and Turks well.... i'm not going to say a word... they're the neighbour from hell, take a look at Aerial engagement in the Aegean region :icon_lol:

Thanks for the HU, Wing_Z! The scenery looks great, but in reality Dalaman airport is not a place you want to be stuck at at night... Unfortunately I'm speaking from my own experience here!

Clarke123: Amazing coincidence! I imagine I have all that stuff, but nice to have it all in one hit. Downloading as we speak...

Smoothie: I'll take care to use the appropriate aircraft when edging common airspace, thanks for the reminder...

Ferry: It's a great scenery, and in flightsim at any rate, makes a handy stopover on the Aegean tour! (They have spent $150million on the new terminal I see)

For that amount of money I would have expected more than a soulless massive concrete hall.. Then again it does explain why a simple McDonalds menu would set me back $20!
