American Artist Provides Solace with Portraits of War Dead

A prominent American artist is currently making a name for himself by creating portraits of soldiers killed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. He hopes to provide peace of mind for families of the fallen with his art.

Recently, Reagan received an e-mail from Germany for the first time. "Could you draw portraits of fallen German soldiers too?" asked a member of the US Army working at a military hospital in Landstuhl in southwestern Germany. Reagan agreed immediately.

Being an artist myself, I was particularly touched by this one. Drawing day in day out people other mourn for can bring the strongest one down. I have great respect for the man.

I hope the responses in this thread will stay respectful. :salute: And non political.

when i first read the thread i thought, how could something like that bring solace? but when i saw the portraits i understood right away. to me, that is REAL art. it's very moving, and i think it's a wonderful thing he is doing.

His art is incredible. I can see how it brings solace and helps people heal. Once they are immortalized in a perfect portrait, it helps solidify them as a positive memory.

Magnificent and noble gesture! I can think of few acts more valuable to the family members than this one. A great human effort on his part! :engel016:

Thanks for linking to those videos. I didn't know them.

I was personally very touched that Mr.Reagan immediately agreed to draw German soldiers too. Those guys certainly don't get much attention, especially in their own country. It's a blessing - and a shame for us - an American artist has taken part of that task on him.
