You can blame Talon for the idea, and the late war color scheme. Thanks to COLLIN for his help as always.:ernae:

Great addition to the fleet.

By the way, a great book and movie based on assault ships was "Away All Boats." Well worth the trip to the library to check it out.

Nice!

What is the main difference between the Liberty ships and the Victory ships? Seems like the Victory ships had steam turbines instead of tripple expansion recips and thus were faster.

Jagd:
One of the first acts of the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) War Shipping Administration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Shipping_Administration) when it was formed in February 1942 was to commission the design of the class, initially designated EC2-S-AP1, where EC2 = Emergency Cargo, type 2 (Load Waterline Length between 400 and 450 feet), S = steam propulsion with one propeller (EC2-S-C1 had been the designation of the Liberty ship design). It was changed to VC2-S-AP1, and the title Victory Ship officially adopted on 28 April 1943.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_ship#cite_note-proceedings-0)
They were an enhancement of the previous Liberty ship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_ship) design that was produced in much greater numbers; in particular, they had a higher speed of 15 to 17 knots (28 to 31 km/h) compared to 11 knots (20 km/h) and longer range. The higher speed was particularly important because it made them less easy prey to U-boats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-boat), and was achieved by using improved engines over the Liberty's triple expansion reciprocating steam engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_expansion_steam_engine) — Lenz type (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Lentz) reciprocating steam engines, steam turbines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compound_turbine) or diesel engines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_engine) with a power output between 6000 and 8500 horsepower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsepower) (4.5 and 6 MW). They also had electrically powered auxiliary equipment rather than steam powered. They were oil fired, although some Canadian vessels were completed with both coal bunkers and oil tanks so that they could use either fuel.
They also had strengthened hulls compared to Liberty ships since a few of the latter had suffered fractured hulls.

a blurb from Wikapedia, I'm ginning up the readme and the DP file for the Victory ship..:wavey:

Enemy sub put a fish into one of the new Victorys on the starboard side forward! Lucky for us, the escorts chased the bad guy away, one is standing by as the tug is arriving to tow us for repair. Gee, the west coast and Pearl are too far away, as are the Aussie ports that can handle us, what can we do?:kilroy:

Of course there's a solution. Luckily Maskrider said he neded a floating dock. My shipyard workers drove a hard bargain, extra beer each week, (I get to help dispose of it:jump:) and pix below shows what's waiting.

Need DP and a trimmed version of a ship under repair to keep the frame rates down.

The ships look real good, good work. There is one thing that would really bring them to life even more thanthey are now and that is deck hands.Someone has got to handle the cargo and run the boats.I know it sounds like a small thing but it sure would add to the missions they are used in.

Mike, see screenie, in progress, trying to squeeze out enough polys to be frame friendly.

Collin helped me with better latticework for the cranes etc. - more replacement work necessary.

Thanks MR!

Bob, look at the screenie closely, 6 workers present, just don't get too close. My smaller ships have them aboard!

Already planning a version as infastructure, with no pontoons that you could place near the shore on land. Gotta learn the bgl and library object tricks next.

And maybe post a sign ... "DO NOT USE TOILET (actually, HEAD) WHILE TRAIN IS IN THE STATION" ... oh ... and whatever you do ... DON'T PULL THAT RED HANDLE ... it will empty the head holding tanks ... and THAT will REALLY P/O the guys working down there!:kilroy:

The damaged Victory ship should be up at my site soon. Great for mission builders, show it as partially damaged. Maximum of 5mph, wake and water effects turned off, all you see is fire/smoke/some steam from stack. I've toned down the forward guns, as the crews are helping damage control. The skipper has not called for abandon ship, he believes he can save her. Lifeboats are still aboard. Have fun.

The floating docks will be next.

I particularly like how she's down by the bow ... has that little bit of "sag" to her ... like she knows she's been hurt ... but just won't quit ... at least not just yet anyway.:kilroy:

Great stuff Sully. You are certainly on a roll and you have made just the right choices for our seas. The dry dock was the one thing missing for recreating Darwin in 1942. The pedants might say thay your dock is to large for Darwin, but that would really miss the point. Just one question: Is the dry dock sinkable?

No prob! That is the difference between CFS and FS. Targets and effects!

Just need a few more tweaks, hopefully out by the weekend.:running:

And a question: I created the support barges and am thinking of posting them as triples/doubles instead of single barges. I've got 8 (3 styles - size differences) now and want to build one with a crane aboard. What would the community like to have for mission building etc? By doubling/tripling them, they become only one object to place.

Of course this means I need a tug, already got some plans!:jump:

Sully not trying to be greedy; I think all way's would be the best in that one could tailer the barges to fit the modeling situation. Plus the barge with the crane can be use to pry the flying boats of the reef's and for loading/unloading air craft from ships to shore movements.
