This issue is common to some FS9 port overs. Is there a way to fix it?

Fixed it. Evidently, all you have to do is copy the VCrain textures from the FS9 folder to fix this. Did some googling. Also, somebody made a set of rain VC rain textures that are smaller, and, presumeably, less of a frame rate hit. I found those at AVSIM. Search for "vc rain" in the FSX library. These are the ones I installed.

Odd thing is, after doing this research, I seem to remember doing this already before. In fact, the FSX texture folder did contain a set of vc rain files, but the forum I found the solution from said that MS forgot to include the VC rain texture files, and this is what caused the opaque issue.

I wonder if the REX2 installation replaced the VC rain texture files with "broken" ones...

EDIT: I see you found an answer whilst I was composing my reply, but I'll let it stand so all the alternatives are presented... :)

Yes, either copy/paste all 32 VCRain...bmp bitmaps from FS9's ../Texture folder to FSX's ../Texture folder...

-or-

Download and install Joe Binka's vcrain.zip available at avsim.com or flightsim.com

-or-

Download and install the 32 VCRain...bmp bitmaps directly from Microsoft's FS website:

-or-

Simply do a search HERE at SimOuthouse for the answer given back in February of this year:

Thanks, n4gix.

You are most welcome PRB... :)

I have to wonder though why my signature isn't showing up anymore???:173go1:

EDIT: Never mind! I completely forgot that the "privelege" of having a custom signature is reserved for "Donors" only...

Oh I'm glad you guys brought this back up again...I've had the issue with the MAAM DC3 and was just too lazy to research a fix.
:salute:

Here's a working link to the Microsoft page, if anyone needs it: http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/tips/Pages/SupportAlertAdd-onAircraftCockpitsOpaqueintheRain.aspx.

Edit: Oh, and on a side note, as the Microsoft page also mentions, Flight1 has an alternative fix here: http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library (should be up top, labeled "Virtual Cockpit Rain fix for FSX").
