I want a through-the-eye viewfinder, I need glasses to see an LED screen and they do not show up good in daylight. Any camera worth its mettle should have a viewfinder!

No offence intended, but I think you're a little anti-Sony, aren't you ;) ? You should look at the NEX5...nice black, with a cool chrome lens...
At least there is an equivalent to Micro Four Thirds, which both Canon and Nikon lack at the moment. And the NEX cameras are very competitive in features and pricing versus MFT cameras. They perform better at high ISO, which is obvious since the MFT cameras' sensors are smaller (crop factor 2 vs crop factor of 1.5)

I understand you'd like an (optical) viewfinder...that's an accessory, just like it was for the Olympus Pen EP-1 (standard with the EP-2, the GF-1's EVF is said to be better if I remember it correctly). The LCD has a pretty high resolution (921K) so unless your eyesight is very poor I'd say you should be able to use it easily. Do you wear glasses, sat in front of your computer :), just for the sake of clarity ? In case you haven't read about it yet, these LCD's feature a TruBlack feature, which automatically adjusts the brightness, has an anti-reflective film, etc:

The large, 3-inch/7.5-cm* Xtra Fine LCD monitor boasts a 16:9 widescreen display with LED backlighting and stunningly crisp 921,600-dot* resolution. Viewing and focusing ease are also enhanced by Sony TruBlack technology, which cuts reflection and glare with a special anti-reflective resin layer, as well as anti-reflective film. So you get vibrant colors and deeper, richer blacks, with high contrast that sharply reveals fine image details. In addition to auto and manual LCD monitor brightness adjustment, there's also a convenient Sunny Weather mode that significantly boosts screen brightness to assure easier viewing in bright light.

Here is the dedicated website:
http://www.sony.net/Products/ilc/E-series/nex5nex3/features01.html

And here are the specifications:
http://www.sony.net/Products/ilc/E-series/nex5nex3/pdf/specifications.pdf

Main features in my humble opinion:
- HDR, taking three shots in quick succession,
- Sweep panorama (up to 226 degrees with the 16mm wide-angle pancake lens),
- Full-HD filming with AF (!),
- 3D: starting summer this year.

The battery should provide enough power to take 330 shots, but I think it'll be more, like 500 images or so (my A350 has a 730 shots rated battery, but I can take + 1400 on a single battery).

I'm getting one...way cheaper than the Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70, saving money for the A7XX :d. Much easier for my general photography, too.

And now, it's Joris' turn to take the "defensive stand"....;)

IMHO, these are great cameras and what makes these & the micro 4/3'ds type great is that you get DSLR performance in a body that you can in most cases, get through security at those events where'd you'd normally get booted out with your "professional" photography equipment (i.e., your DSLR). The only thing I can see that some customers might not like about the NEX series is that there appears to be no stabilization built in the body. Not sure about adapaters for other lenses. Also, personally, I would've liked the Sony kit 18-55 to be smaller & collapseable somewhat like the 14-42 that Olympus offers....

Other than that, looks good to me! :)

:p:

Not necessarily, but that camera is fugly. The Olympus ones aren't anywhere near as ugly.

I don't like these mini SLR's. One of the reasons I got a SLR is because it is bigger and easier to handle than point and shoots. A rebel body isn't really that much bigger either, so I can't really think of a situation where I couldn't use my rebel but could use one of these.

It *appears* to me that you've get to go to an event where they've kicked you out at the door because you're carrying "professional" photography equipment. (This has happened to me a few times now).

With these new types of smaller yet performing cameras, you can slip by security (because they'll think it's a point-and-shoot) and you'll get to have DSLR quality shots :)

Exactly! I've been kicked out twice so far (once at a concert, once at a lecture of a writer) for carrying my old, trusty A350 and 18-70...

I do like the classic design of the EP-1/2 (haven't looked at the EPL-1 yet, actually), but I would not say these are 'fugly' ;). I like the chrome design of the lenses.

William, as much as I like the convenience of a DSLR, I do like to keep it light-weight from time to time. I walked through quite a part (can't say I walked through Madrid completely LOL) of Madrid, with my CompuTrekker AW on my back, with all my photography gear in it (camera, lenses, hoods + food, water, etc) and that's the time when these magnificent mini-DSLR's come in.

For photographing aircraft I'll still pick my 70-400 and my A350 anyday, though.

I'd like to think someone has made an LCD screen usable in full sunlight, but I have yet to see one in person (or NOT see it as the case may be).

I'm glad I'm a mostly wildlife photographer. :jump:

No one ever tells me what to do with my gear. :wiggle:

There is one, the Pixel Qi (http://www.pixelqi.com/) (pronounced "chee"). I would be curious to see if it could be incorporated into a camera. I think it would be a real game changer.

And I wonder if/when Sony will introduce their touch screen technology to the NEX series cameras....:ques:

That's a cool idea. Though I think it would be weird to hang my 300mm off a camcorder... not to mention it would be really awkward to handle. It would definitely be cool with a smaller compact zoom lens though. Hopefully canon picks up on this soon.
