I am a combat simmer at heart but have also flown MS civil sims for many years. I haven't yet bought FSX because I was told by a family member and electronics engineering grad from Standford that it isn't worth flying FSX until you have installed Vista, added a full 2 Gig of Mem and a few other improvements and not attempt to run in it on anything less then a 2.5 CPU. I've got most of this accomplished and would like to get a few aircraft that will fly in CFS 2, 3 and FSX so my question is; will Donationware planes work in FSX and if not will you be updating them for FSX?

For starters, I'd like to get the P-40 and the Wildcat. I will be flying both of these in CFS 2 primarily but It would be great to get everything to work in FSX as well. I have a freebee version of Copley's P-38s which is what I usually fly in CFS 2. I would like to get these to work in FSX too but that's not a Donationware issue. Besides, It's probably high time I coughed up a few bucks for the great airplane Copley built.

BTW, I used to think of The P-38 as less then an "honest" airplane and chose to fly the Wildcat, Hellcat and P-40s but when I saw Copleys exellent effort, I just had to fly it in combat. I learned to stop chaising Zeros, instead out powering them and shooting them in the face with all that fire power just as Dick Bong found so effective. I have also found from a number of sourses that it was a common responce from P-38 pilots to refuse to switch to other aircraft later in the war, even turning down P-51 Ds. Then when forced to change, some pilots actually drank themselves into a stupper and would get themselves grounded. This suggests a very much stronger preference for this unorthidox fighter then most of use realize.

Thanks for your reply Henry.

Chris:

I was on the beta team for FSX and have been assisting Henry with some of the more recent Flight Dynamics for the d-ware. I have flown many of the recent d-ware planes in FSX and most are good fliers. The new Corsair pack, (to be released) flies quite nicely in FSX and should be pretty comaptable. The usual issue is gauges, as the FS98 stuff that has been used for years is no longer supported.

I will probably tweak the FM's a bit to optimize for FSX after they come out.

Personally I get along pretty well with FSX, though it is on the leading edge of computer hardware. After a year or so, people will start catching up computer wise, and a large enough number of addons will be available to start bring people over.

There will be some minor model issues as well. FSX modelin is alot different in ways than fs9 is.

Are you plannin on usin the cfs2 version in fsx, or gettin the fs9 version also?? Just like the differences of fs9 an fsx, there will be some in the cfs2 vsserion, as it is a much older sim.

As far as pure 100% fsx updates, just not sure yet. I'm not sure I'm gonna make the change over. If MS comes out with a new combat sim, then I'll prolly fer sure make the change. Until then, just dunno!!

Except for the invisible glass bug the FS9 Wildcat works fine in FSX. I Also had to change the autopilot to the new lear gauge. The old lear autopilot gauge file dos'nt like my FSX ( as if I ever used autopilot any way :mixedsmi: )
