I've been messing around on and off for a while trying to get photo-terrain textures into cfs3.
The basic textures are courtesay of Pelican72 and were originally made for BoB2, he's kindly allowed me to use them. Have had to alter the scale and contast etc to get them looking suitable in our sim.

The lso files need creating yet - these will put the model trees in the right places as at the moment these are the stock files which is why it looks odd. The airfield is Hawkinge which is in the process of being blended into the terrain at the moment.

The textures are meant really for flying over the UK only and are part of a BoB install which may or may not one day get released, RL is encroaching more and more on hobby time these days :(.

I'm fairly pleased with the results so far...

Looking good Clive, well done! Hawkinge seems to fit quite nicely into the terrain too. The idea of having a BoB install for CFS3 is an exciting prospect also, something I keep meaning to do with what we've got so far. As you said real life can sometimes take more of your time than you expect, I barely get enough time to play at the moment! Whilst Im posting I was wondering if you could check your ETO install for Newchurch ALG, my texture isnt showing up. It may be an error with my install only. Cheers

Very good looking! I hope RL doesn't interfere too much...

You know me Pat I hardly ever fly this high (I'm getting a nose bleed looking at it. lol), I always like to see the bark on the trees or the wavetops, so I was wondering what it looks like lower down?

You know how I feel about phototextured airfields in normal CFS3 scenery but placed in scenery as good as this one I certainly wouldn't mind! This really does look good!! That town looks like .. uhm .. a town, as opposed to that white and grey blob that MS thought looks like one

impressive indeed Clive! I would like so much to be able as u with comp to help.....apart economical support!
a BoB install like this would be wonderful, hope in some way it could be brought on!

Not too bad low down Jeff, once the trees are in the right places it should look better.

Something else from the BoB install. By altering the entries in the qclocations file, the airfields in the ui can be arranged by group, just to add a bit of historic detail.

In the same vein have also added more info to the airfield labels and to aid navigation towns are included in the GL.

It looks great, I had the same idea just to enhanced some few famous locations like the Versailles gardens, well known places in Paris, and in London.

Here is the "Champ de Mars" at the Eiffel's tower foot.
Hope your Bob scenery and my stuff will join the next ETO package !

All the best

I do like that Clive! Hope you get enough time to see it through! :wiggle: (I've got three members of RL crawling all over me right now asking for games or telly - bank holiday Monday and the sun's out!! :d)

This is looking fantastic, Clive, and will make ETO even better! Who could have guessed what CFS3 would involve into at the time it was released?

Thanks chaps. :)

If anyone would like to try the wip drop me a pm. It's suitable for stock cfs3 or the ETO.

ps..anyone know of a good free file hosting site that will take 55mb?

Just a question clive, it seems possable that a jungle tile could be created for the pto islands out of an aireal photo. Do you think thats possable.??

That would be no problem and something I was considering anyway. :) Maybe you could search Google Earth and find some suitable locations for them?

Actually, we need something very important for CFS3 in Britain - pubs. Recognisable ones, from the air. Complete with pub sign and so on... The number of stories I've heard about pilots beating up the local pub - I knew there was something essential missing, and now I know what it was.

Have a slow, low fly over Hawkinge village Nigel....;)

Can't for the time being - ETO gets stroppy on my old computer. ETO 1.0 runs, 1.2 is difficult, and 1.3 doesn't agree with me at all! Goodness knows why. I should reinstall it, to be honest.

Hi sir Pat,

Beautiful work!

If I may ask ... whats the effect on the frame-rates?

RemcoC

Pat Pattle
May 14th, 2010, 05:22
RemcoC - the fps hit is surprisingly small, if anything. The new mos files have only 2 layers where stock cfs3 has a dozen or more. Also, Johnnos trees are lower poly than the stock one so all in all I think it's pretty similar.

New city photo textures wip, all very subjective of course!

My only whinge is that those square trees are back... They mutate into real ones at estimated 200 yards, which is a bit too near. Otherwise, its pretty good stuff... To say the least! Sliders 3.

Mmm..black trees, I remember the problem but haven't seen it myself, I'll try the sliders lower down.
I hadn't planned on replacing Johnnos trees....
