Hi Guys for some reason I got the urge to fly my old Iris F15 today and well that default hood is no good, causes terrible frames and looks awful in acceleration so I swapped it for the F18 HUD available at flightsim.com, Here how I did it if you would also like the modification.

Firstly download this ... http://dfs2.flightsim.com/kdlr.php?fn=realistic_hud_fsx_hornet.zip

Then open the panel.cfg of the Iris F15 and add the two F18 gauge files to the panel folder, then open the panel.cfgthen add this to the [Vcockpit01] setion ...
gauge00=FA18_HUD_VC_R!FA18_HUD_VC_R, 175,0,735,980, and then you'll have a brand new hood that works and looks great! I highly recommend getting the textures by Zsolt Beleznay, Mike Pearson and Andy Nott.

No problem Don, its the only F15 we've got at present I'm also working on the Iris strike eagle, I've done the MFD's replacing them with Acceleration ones and working on the HUD glass, I'll post any progress tonight with a few cold ones after work!

My Iris F-15E ported over with everything working except for one problem...the thrust levers go into max power as soon as the plane loads into flightsim, and engine speeds are stuck at 100%. Did yours do that?

Interesting. Mine on FSX/A, no. No problem except having to replace the compass.

Yeah I fixed that throttle problem quite easily, as for the MFD's I didn't think the left and right one worked I'll have to take a look at that, the HUD need's fixing as it has that Green box around it, I replaced the actual HUD but I need to fix the Glass!

What was the throttle fix? I sure could use it.

Throttle fix for the F-15E, open the panel.cfg scroll to the [Vcockpit01] section then completely remove (gauge02=F15E_Gauges!Afterburner FDC, 1,1,20,20) and thats it!:salute:

Has anybody managed to fix this problem with the HUD or know what texture is responsible for the E, I want rid of that Green?
Also could some show what gauge to use for the compass replacement!

According to the Iris website the F-15s are now freeware. Does anyone know where to get them?

The compass is the easy bit: In the panel.cfg, simply refer to the stock FSX/A DG808 version:

[Window00]
...
gauge25=DG808S!dg808s_compass, 869,17,91,91

[Vcockpit03]
...
gauge55=DG808S!dg808s_compass, 911,19,96

The green bits in the VC HUD are not so easy, you need to edit the MDL files using Martin Wright's MDLMat tool. Change the Alpha value on the VC HUD LOD - Diffuse from 75 to 0. In some MDL's it is LOD 02 14, other are LOD 02 15 or LOD 02 16.

Here you can find Martin Wright's brilliant tools - look for MDLMat: http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/

Great stuff by IRIS! The A/C and E models seem to port over pretty well for me. Made the changes suggested in this thread and all work well. I also removed the IRIS wingtip vortice effect, and adjusted the wingspan for both A/C and E models in the aircraft.cfg to 42.8 so the default FSX wingtip vortice displays properly. Also edited the O2 breathing sound out by renaming the "oxy.wav" file to "oxy_bak.wav." Some might like to breathing effect, I just found it rather distracting after about a minute.

Cheers,
Dave

Has anyone had a problem changing the nav frequency? It remains on 113.7, shows the + and - when you mouse over the LED digits just below the hud, but does not change.
Thanks.

What is needed for the F-15E to work in FSX?

Are the MFDs from the Acceleratoin Hornet just like any other VC gauge that can be slapped down on a model able to receive them? Could you post how you got the F-18 MFDs working in the F-15? An MFD upgrade and the HUD upgrade would be enough for me to go fly some CAPs.

Cheers,

Chris

the answer is Chris I COULDN'T GET IT WORKING, WHILE ON MY SCREENSHOT YOU CAN SEE i HAVE GOT THE F18 mfd IN PLACE i COULDN'T CHANGE THE SETTINGS TO ADI RADAR AND ALIKE SO i REVERTED BACK TO the standard MFD's included in the package! sorry hit caps lock and can't be bothered to change it lol!

That makes sense Peter. I think I remember reading somewhere that the MFDs are normal gauges, but the buttons have to be included in the model. Honestly, it's all a bit above my paygrade. I still think the IRIS F-15C has potential. The HUD fix is a major improvement.

Chris

The F-15E is the strike eagle, right ?
In that case, I believe there is nothing to do, excepted replacing the HUD by a FPS-friendly one, exactely like for he F-15C. The throttle bug is already fixed in the F-15E package, no need to do anything there :)
