They're called Muse, and they are growing absolutely HUGE. I haven't seen a band get this big this fast and create such a following in quite some time, they may have the ability to last and become legendary. There aren't a lot of bands on popular radio right now with staying power. I'm still on the fence about this band and can't decide whether I'm going to like them or talk crap about them like I do nickelback. I have to give credit where it's due; at least their songs have feel and soul in a time when the radio is lifeless to me. My biggest problem with them is that I get an overwhelming sense that I'm listening to plaguerism. The song I've selected for you guys totally has a part in the chorus that's very distinctive to 'sloop john B'.

His gaspy breathing really puts me off Muse and always has done unfortunately. It was pointed out to me some years ago and I just can't listen to them without hearing it now.

Some pretty bad examples here:

They've been really big in the UK for years now, at first they were darlings of many an "alternative" type but they've slipped quietly into the mainstream and are obviously doing very well for themselves.

I remember seeing them at Leeds ten years ago now, they were okay and the crowd really seemed to appreciate them.

I've liked them for years and years.

They're a funny little group. They can all play or 'mime' each others instruments very well, and when a show that they're on doesn't want them to do a liver performance, and just mime, they all swap instruments lol.

The drummer sings, the singer drums etc.

If that's not a way of saying 'piss off' to people who support mimed music I don't know what is.

Or they could refuse to perform.

Just a thought.

I'm sure you've heard some songs off of their previous albums, because I remember hearing them on the radio pretty regularly a few years ago. They are just now getting more mainstream success in the US, though they were hardly unknown previously. Their album Absolution came out in 2003, which is about the time I remember them being on MTV2.

However you want to define it, they are just getting huge here. They've been played on the radio off and on for years, but now young girls are foaming at the mouth for them and making creepy videos for youtube. That's the sign of success for me. :icon_lol:

GROSS!!!!

Didn't say they are my favourites, but compared to Muse I'd rather listen to a Nickelback CD; anyway they do have a few good songs:

That proves my theory that all their songs sound the same. I keep hearing that 'look at the trouble we're in' song in that one.

I just noticed how creepy that bass player's mustache is. He doesn't looke the part of any band, he looks like a security guard at a mall somewhere.

We think alike :ernae:

I like the chorus, but not the individual vocals. Like redriver6 says, it sounds like U2 to me, and I hate U2 *ducks as tomatoes are hurled his way*

That said, I would actually listen to these guys as opposed to ripping my radio out of my dash every time U2 comes on *ducks again, but gets hit with a tomato anyway* :kilroy:

That's about how I feel. U2 was barely a pass with me, but once their songs became were on the soundtrack to every 'B' movie and crappy sitcom in the 90's and they started getting political, that was it. U2 makes me want to go crazy. There can only be so many slow songs dripped in reverb with echo guitars. How have they made a career out of it?

Not familar with Muse but I did like the song enough. The music is good but the singer might be a bit of an acquired taste for repeated listenings.

Okay, I found a song of theirs I can handle. Most of ther songs are either whiny or way to geared to sell.

Muse is my third most listened to band (according to last.fm). I don't really like the road they've taken after "Absolution", but it's still okay to listen to. If you get over the fact that "The Resistance" sounds like a Queen revival (a band that I mostly dislike), it's actually pretty solid stuff. Their older stuff is way better in any case.

"Hysteria" is one of the best songs ever. The bass line and especially solo is just sick!

k7la0SndoCI

"Time Is Running Out" is awesome as well because it's diversity in intensity.

ebfbjdF9K5o

Their live album "HAARP" is the music form of awesome. (Here: New Born)

8e3Amp4SgOY

And come on, they even have a song about whiskey in their portfolio. And who could hate a band singing about alcohol? :icon_lol:
