I've been running FSX with only SP1. Only because the first time I tried to install SP@ FSX crashed and wouldn't run.

Today, I tried SP2 again...

I am STUPID!!!! FSX is suddenly so much smoother than I could have imagined. I was having trouble running the Carenendo C-185 and now it's almost as good as a default plane. UT AK was dragging things down too but now it's smooth. I can run it locked at 22 and get it in the rural areas where before I was lucky to get 15. I unlocked things and saw as high as 40 fps in spots. I got a low of 12 in Juneau Harbor with the Aerosoft Beaver Amphib with preset three in UT AK. But it was still flyable.

Not too bad for my ancient P-IV 3 gig with only 4 gig of ram and an old ATI vid card.

FSX is suddenly usable for me. If this works out, I might have to think about getting rid of FS9....

Maybe...

Acceleration is even smoother, but there is nothing wrong with SP2. I glad you finally did it Brian

Yep. XP SP2. I still can't run the default Garmin MFD's though. They still drag down the frames. I want to add some AI because It's pretty lonely in the skies as of the moment. I have Just Flight's My Traffic X but I don't like it. I'll probably install Flight 1's Traffic X. It's a bit more in depth. Now all I have to do is save up the cash.

fantastic news Brian, welcome to the ball! LOL. This is just one of the reasons everyone should have SP2 installed.

I've done other things to improve frames. Reduced size autogen textures have helped immensely. I gained nearly 8 fps from that alone on my original install. I also put in reduced size clouds as well.

I'm slowly getting this thing dialed in....

Performance_textures_FSXSP2 These are the textures I after testing, found best for performance in FSX SP2... Textures are just reduced in size, and some chanced format from 32 bit to dxt3 or dxt1. Mips are not changed from the original, to prevent flight simulator to failure or crash. The textures are VC-RAIN_textures, Auto gen Trees all seasons, Water textures and Sky textures. Place the texures in the main texture folder, the original textures from SP2 is included in this file, if You dont want to use the smaller textures.
