Another "pearl" from NickN over at Simforums, this time a blow by blow description of how to optimize Win7 for FSX. He takes you from installing Win7, optimizing that installation, then installing FSX and it's optimization.
I already have those installed obviously and no way I was going to start over just to follow along, but it's easy to pick up beyond each install process and make the tweaks he suggests in between each. It took about 2 hours to do everything, including defrags in between each step at one point with O&O Defrag. Those instructions can be found here:
http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=34141&PID=198187#198187
After that I went to his great tutorial on setting up NHancer "correctly", which can be found here:
http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041
Scroll down to find the actual setup instructions.
After doing all this, and of course this is simply my results (your results may vary), I went to the main proving ground for fps tweaks (New York City) and while I did experience some stuttering, the fps had gone from single and low double digit fps to 20 to 25fps.
My system is a $300 base system, 2.9ghz CPU, 8gigRAM, NVidia 9600GT Vid Card with 512RAM and running dual monitors (1 22" flat screen, 1 19" CRT). Also, nothing is overclocked. . .I don't know how and I figured it was better to leave that along rather than fry something and have to shut down FSX indefinitely.
Might be worth checking out!!:salute:
