View Full Version : Gyroscopic Gunsight?

Hi all,
IIRC, the default P-51 in CFS1 had a gyroscopic gunsight.

I assume that this was in fact a gauge. If so has anyone managed to port it to CFS2?

I went looking for my CFS1 cd the other day to check this out but couldn't find it anywhere.

thanks
Gavin

Note that there is no dedicated gunsight gauge anywhere in the cfg, which leads one to deduce that any gyro sighting apparatus is either designed exclusively into the P-51 mdl file as a VC component or it resides in one of the dll modules in the MODULES folder and is only active for the Mustang model alone. I would suspect the former, since there are no dedicted dll's by name for the Mustang in the MODULES folder that would activate this in that single model. Now, of course, you can fly this CFS1 model in CFS2 without issues, but the CFS2 engine apparently doesn't support this exclusive VC gunsight feature and in 2D view will supersede it with the universal default gunsight64.bmp from the main Texture folder, which is applied to all of your models.

Back in the early days of CFS 2, many bemoned the loss of the gyro sight. I don't think anyone solved how to make it work in CFS 2.

Wolfi has a neat work around gyro sight for his beta Panther jet that is dependent on rudder and elevator input. It works very well and would be a great addition to our mustangs. I'm not sure how he made it, but perhaps he'll see this thread and tell us.

Bear, Jagd - thanks for the info - it has been many moons since I flew in CFS1.

Jagd is right, it's a combination with rudder and elevator and it works only in VC view, I made it for my Beta ki44 also (there you have activate the Concorde nose key's) It was not easy to assemble but works fine with the panther, the ki44 need still a bit adjustment.
Just for information, I'm working again at my models but have to relearn a lot because I haven't worked with FSDS2 very much through the last year. So if there are updates I will post pictures here at Sim-Outhouse.
