Anyone know where I can find what the various parameters are for the guns and weapons xpd files?

Like what is meant by these settings?
Weapon WeaponType="shell" ImpactDice="1" ImpactDieSize="1" ImpactOffset="75" BlastDice="1" BlastDieSize="1" BlastOffset="75" BlastRadius="2" FireDice="1" FireDieSize="1" FireOffset="25" ExplodeEffect="fx_bltpln_l" GroundEffect="fx_bltgnd_m" AirEffect="fx_bltpln_l" WaterEffect="fx_bltwtr_m" />

For missions, there is a nifty sdk which explains many of the parameters for mission files, but I can't find any such thing for weapons.

I just want to fool around for my own amusement; not trying to change the world for anyone else.

Thanks

ThanksThese are in the Weapons Folders. For instance, for a 20mm XDP you can modify it by looking for the appropriate 20mm_round folder(British, German, etc.), in there is the XDP for that round/gun.

The Guns folder houses the XDPs for the guns themselves. Most of the modifying you'd need would be in the Weapons folder though.

I got that part ok, but what I'm looking for is some idea of what the values mean.

What, for example, does the number 75 mean for "ImpactOffset"?

Is it just trial and error; set a value and see what happens? or is there somewhere a listing of what the numbers might mean?

Just for fun, I set the value in the 50calbrowningm2 xpd to 800, and boyohboy what a lot of damage my 50-cals can do!

I found the answer.

If you download the aircraft/vehicle sdk from MSoft, and go and get the gmax, it installs the documentation tucked inside a folder called GMAX\gamepacks\cfs3\docs.

It's pretty well hidden, in the truest tradition of Microsoft.

No wonder no one had a quick answer; I only found it in a fit of housekeeping which made me wonder what was inside the GMAX folder.

Some of us have that printed out. It still only yields its secrets with reluctance....

Yes, it IS only the Rosetta stone. More translation is still necessary.

Has anyone approached Microsoft to see if they'd release source codes???
Not that I could do anything with it, but others might well.

Oh , gowan, give Bill and Melissa a call.

Remember, the only stupid question.....

But on thinking further, probably was just a moment of, oh, I dunno, senility?

Perhaps someone could steal it; that would be justice of a sort.
