Im wondering what is the most advanced helicopter for FSX in terms of engine management, flight model, etc.? Either payware or freeware. But since accusim, I like my aircraft to be able to break if not handled correctly. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Just like the A2A Cub vs the Default Cub.
You can break it if not handled properly. Wears over time.
5 levels of difficulty.
I'd recommend downloading the manual for it that's located on the page in that link.
More expensive than most payware addon's, but worth it.
Hovercontrol.com has some excellent repaints available as well.

A pleasure to fly, and one of my personal top 5 favorite helicopters I routinely fly in FSX.
(My top 5 seemed to get shuffled around on a daily basis)

I second that! DoDoSim 206

Yes - i agree it replicates the 206 better than anything - just a shame that the VC is so dull

I echo Gajit's comment about the VC of the Dodosim. I think we've been spoilt, a little, recently with some very easy on the eye, releases from Nemeth Bros. and Cera Simaircraft. If you look at the default 206 you'll have a good idea of what the Dodosim look's like.

However as far as realism goes, within the constraints of FSX of course, nothing touches the Dodosim. Probably my favourite thing about the model is the fact that it has several difficulty settings, all the way from a dumbed down training mode up to "why can't I even start this thing".

If you want realism there really is only one choice.

Yup Dodosim, and it's really not that hard to fly if you can manage the default helicopters. It's turned into my favourite helicopter at present, if only because I enjoy starting her up.

Dodo is the best that there is.

But if you are not looking for ACCUsim style modules, Cera 412 and 212 provide the best "FSX only" realism.

Alternatively, I'd recommend Helicopter Total Realism (http://www.hovercontrol.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?;act=SF;f=53). You can use it with any helicopter you'd like. You can also easily fine tune the CFG files further if needed.

Looks unanimous then! :) That 206 seems to be modeling exactly what Im looking for. Textures though look just mediocre, so does anyone know of any Dodosim releases in the near future? Maybe the VC detail can catch up to the systems management by then....

There is a Huey in production. No idea when it'll be released.

rwmarth:

If you are looking for the most advanced helicopter simulator there is, then you should consider DCS: Black Shark:

http://www.amazon.com/DCS-Black-Shark-Pc/dp/B001OAUBR2%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAJASE6HSSVXTNREYQ %26tag%3Dsmtfx1-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165 953%26creativeASIN%3DB001OAUBR2

Not only is it far and away the most advanced in terms of flight dynamics, cockpit modeling, damage modeling, controls and systems, etc., it is a fully capable Russian combat helo with full weapons systems that can engage and destroy any target on the battlefield. Here is the best part:

Dodosim 206 for FSX: $54.60 (for just one more helo in an obsolete and buggy simulator - which I happen to love as well!)

DCS Black Shark: $33.99 at Amazon (that's for a FULL modern simulator, with state of the art programming and modeling that takes full advantage of the latest computer hardware)

Plus Black Shark is fully multiplayer capable, and can be integrated with newly released Lock On Flamings Cliffs 2.0 (compatibility patch will soon be released), which also happens to be the most advanced jet combat simulator at the moment (includes A10, F15, Mig 29, Su 29, Su 33, Su 25, Su25T - note that you need to also have the original Lock On Modern Air Combat + LC Flaming Cliffs to run Lock On 2.0, but Black Shark can run independently).

I hope everyone will forgive my momentary lapse of insanity for promoting a competing simulator. I love FSX (once you get it running well and overcome its obsolescence). However, when I hear that someone is looking for the most realistic helo simulator, I feel like I would be doing them a disservice not to mention Black Shark!

There were high resolution cockpit textures for the Dodo 206 that Owen Young did, but I can't seem to locate them.
I know they are out there somewhere.
The 206 has a pretty simple cockpit anyway.

There are a LOT of Dodosim 206 exterior repaints over at Hovercontrol.com (http://www.hovercontrol.com/cgi-bin/ifolio/imageFolio.cgi?search=dodo&cat=Add-ons_-_Repaints_-_FSX&x=9&y=10&bool=and) and OZx Forum. (http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=4)
Should be a couple more repaints coming out this week.

Okay, now I remember.

The high resolution cockpit textures are available and included as part of the "Team DODO" package.
You can download it here:

Definitely gives a needed graphics boost to the cockpit textures.
