...it's been since MS shut down the servers that i quit using CFS3 and posting here, having both my squad (SK32 & MOG) shift to il.2, and a double-edge HD erase and a troublemaking univ choice forced me to retire. plus the forum was under reconstruction and all my posts got deleted (that's for the "6 post showing left)

quite sincerely, i miss those times, i miss teamspeak, i miss a pair of fellows here and here, mike, bailey, aracno and most of all Pedegreechum- whose mail was disabled and i can't get in touch with him anymore-

i can't plan to come back (at least not soon enough!), but i'd like to know what has become of avhistory, mog, MAW 2 and this new ETO (completely unknown to me, what's in there??) and if there's still hope for this old, magnificent game that some retard have amputee few years ago.

My best Wishes to all. happy Easter

P.S.

it's great to see ndicki's still here chaps!
plus, new graphics...wheew.

Hello! good to see you!

Well, the old school has moved on to other things; basically, of the old Desert Rats, there are only Greg, John and me who are still active in CFS3. The others have all either stopped or gone to FSX, such as Mathias and Alessandro.

Stan got fed up with something and left - can't remember what it was; something to do with ETO if I remember correctly. Or maybe not. Dangerous Dave hasn't been around for ages either - perhaps too much family life? And so on and so forth.

ETO... Well, ETO is basically the ACC total rework of all UK airfields, some new special effects, and a few new aircraft. I can't run it properly, since it requires too many resources in any case. Other than the airfields people, they're mostly American, and interested in 1943-45, I think. Not really sure because they have their own forum to which many of us modders were invited and subsequently booted out. Long and rather tedious story.

So all in all, the Last Guard is clinging on to the CFS3 Forum, and the fact that SOH had to close down for a bit and change servers did not help... There remain a few old hands, and otherwise a few newbies for us to keep an eye on, but life has become far slower...

Could do with you to give it a bit of a boost!

:kilroy:Darkrevan, I remember seeing you in here before.

Well, for starters:

1. AvHistory is still there: http://avhistory.org/communityserver/default.aspx No long making new items for CFS3, but SF@, I think. They still offer plenty of CFS3 planes, though.

You may also want to check out Reg's Hangar, as well: http://www.regshanger.com/

2. MAW2, as far as I know and can tell, will probably never be.

3. I haven't seen anyone from MOG is here for quite some time now, at least not posting.

4. As for ETO, it has taken CFS3 well beyond anything you could possibly imagine. But then again, I am biased. LOL

Check this out: http://www.ww2aircombat.com/

ETO has added many new airfields that actually look like airfields are supposed to look. There are also, at present, over 300 aircraft in ETO. A tremendous catalog of weapons and effects is also present. I can safely say that there simply is little or nothing stock left of the old CFS3 in this sim, other than the basic game engine. Nearly everything has been modified in some way.

The same team that is involved with ETO is already undertaking a major update and upgrade to PTO to bring it up to ETO standards.

Yes, there is hope for CFS3.

BTW, and for the record, one aircraft that has been seriously lacking in CFS3 is now here. The PBY Catalina now exists for CFS3, and it is SWEET! It already appears in ETO and will be present in PTO, of course. You can get it here, along with a lot of other good things: http://www.beauscfs3.leaveningonline.com/

Also, there is currently a freeware B-24 coming up fairly soon, and very good rumor has it, that a Boulton-Paul Defiant may be well ready to make an appearance for CFS3.

Some members of this very Forum have even managed to find good solutions to make CFS3 and all its standa-alone theaters compatible with Vista and Windows 7, both offline and on.

It still lives!:d

Hello again darkrevan, long time no hear! Nigel's said most of it already in his inimitable style, but some of us remember the old hands from when we were rank newbies. We could do with some of them around more to share their experience, but some do call from time to time like Mathias.

New models still happen from time to time and Nacht is our most industrious builder. New missions also, HouseHobbit and others keep the add-on library swelling. And skins - Nigel being the busy chap he is.

If you hanker after online play, the SOH Flight Centre www.sim-outhouse.net (http://www.sim-outhouse.net) is your first port of call for IP games.

Call again soon!

Hi Darkrevan, been a long time indeed.

CFS3 is actually at the most acive it's been for quite a while, just check out the number of bowsers on this forum at anyone time. There may not be the number of modders that there were in the past but there are still enough to keep things interesting. We're also very lucky in that the ones we do have are among the best that there's ever been. :)

oh jesus. Nacht made a JU388. whooooooooo!

well, i'm sincerely suprised, seing the forum offline i thought you may had all shifted to the dark side. :D

i'm low on time, but since i'm finally dealing with a new machine (2 teras) i'm keen on reinstalling cfs3, then add MAW & ETO...is that even possible? i'd like to add all my old plane collection (up to 340, it was) ut i'm still haunted by the "aircraft mismatch" nightmares of my youth-
ETO (thanks griz, owe you one for the links) is indeed interesting. they even patched the firepower planes (i got 'em) i see O1 is on top there, it's like going back to the pub after the last marriage!

after rejecting IL2 and teh whole olegville, i've made acquittance with Silent Hunter 4 and then SH5, both these submarine games have a strong follow, megamods and thousands of addons, so i've kept myself busy for a while.

most important thing however, i miss the online fights...and using my joystick.
i've waited FOUR YEARS to buy it, then the morons turn the switch and *puf* here we are....

ETO and MAW? Easy as pie ... more or less! And with a little care you'll get them all running on Windows 7 should the new rig have it - 32 or 64-bit. Online too, you'll have a ball! :wavey:

Check the stickies for more details.

Yes we leave and usually come wandering home again. Glad to have you around. Stay around a bit and you'll get a treat for some 15th AF b-24j's plus a few 8th AF D's and J's and flock of never released do 217 nightfighters to chase down those pesky 15th AF b24's. Plus the Bay of Biscay is going to get very interesting with the new b24 grv's and a Sunderland to join the CC Wellingtons and Halifaxes (Whitney too). A nice cache of Ju88 c6's exist. Rumor has it that a nice AR 196 is flying about and will make an appearance. And if everybody is real nice maybe a .... well I just keep those to myself for now.

Ah, you like the ju388, she is a blast to fly.

Again, good to see you around.

:kilroy:Darkrevan,

I am not one of the "old fellows", but I know a little something about ETO.

First of all, get this: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=14798

If you're running Vista: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=9007

If you're running Windows 7: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=25661

You may have to download again. Not sure at this point, as I can't see what's happening.

It is a rather large zip file, several, with all updates, and usually takes some time to download. Try to make sure your computer isn't doing anything else during download as a safety precaution.

Please keep us informed.:d

:kilroy:Darkrevan,

OK, here we go.

1. Need a fully-updated copy of CFS3 on your hard-drive. Make sure you fly it first. XP should have no problems, but check your video-card drivers. Sometimes that helps. Don't forget to run cfs3config.exe. It's in the Combat Flight Simulator 3 main game folder.

2. Carefully download and install CFS3 ETO Expansion 1.0 per instructions found in the separate In stallation Guide, by Hairyspin.

Each successive ETO update is installed per written instructions.

I'm not sure about the common.ddl file, though. Haven't run across that problem as yet. This is the first time.

I know what Avast is doing. Within the last year, the Anti-Virus program industry decided it didn't like certain batch files, among other things. You are getting false positives.

Rbp71854 has just recently produced new BDP Zapper, ZX Zapper and ETO Backup that do NOT trigger these false positives, as far as we can tell. Several persons had tested them with various A-V programs, with no ill results. THis mod will appear in the new ETO 1.40 Update package, which will be released in the near future.

You have even more surprises available, sir. We now have excellent FREEWARE B-24D, B-24J, and PBY Catalina aircraft.

Check here:

http://www.regshanger.com/

and here:

http://www.beauscfs3.leaveningonline.com/

Also, please have a look here: http://www.ww2aircombat.com/

Again, if you need help or have questions, please come back.:d
