It is hard to convert the texture for the canopy. I can get it to show up but then everythig else on texture goes away.

Can some one with a "higher paygrade" look at it? ;-)

Take the glass bmp out of the texture folder altogether. This is a common problem with alpha-textured glass bmps on alpha-channeled FS9 models after conversion. The simple remedy is to just leave out the glass bmps everytime. The CFS2 engine will still draw the transparent glass part, without the need for the overlaying bmp.

These redundant alpha overlays are done by FS9 designers to simulate the "eye-candy" effect of light dynamics on tinted or slightly opaque plexiglass. This isn't a requirement for combat-oriented models in a CFS environment, so just let them go whenever they get in the way of finishing the conversion.

The canopy texture is on a muti texture picture print (FBDBANDP)

Use the attached bmp file in all FB skins texture folders. Overwrite what you have. This is a bmp file so just take the pdf extension off and use it.

Dropped your file into the Firebrand and still the canopy is opaque. Have looked at the file and can not figure out where the canopy glass is mapped to....haven't had this much trouble with a file for quite a while.

Hey BC
I've got to agree with Obio on this one. I dropped your FBDBANDP file into the texture folders and there was no change to the canopy texture. I also checked your file out in DXTBmp and there is no alpha channel. You didn't upload the original by mistake did you?

On an unrelated note - what are you all using for your airfile?

Thanks
Gavin

I am using the original Alpha Sim airfiles and config file that I ran through Air Wrench to format them in CFS2 style. The plane seems to fly fine.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone else encountered a problem trying to convert the Torp version (Model.2)? It will convert to FS2002, then to CFS2, but them fails during the animation fix part of the MDLC conversion.

Gavinc, check you e-mail for the air and config files!

I have done a bit of work on the blurred prop texture. Not as nice as Kelticheart's, but better than stock.

Click the attachment, save to your computer, rename to remove the ".txt" and give it a try in your Firebrand (after making a back up of the original first in case you think this one is horrible).

I thought I was losing my mind not being able to convert this texture or use bearcat241s.

Sorry about that guys :redf:...its been so long since i converted this model that i forgot that i fixed the glass not by that bmp but by editing the canopy transparency in the mdl. Anyone unfamiliar with that process can look for my upload later. It'll be a lot easier for me than trying to instruct here.

For those who know scasm editing, you'll locate the canopy parts by either animation or by transparency in the materialslist. Then you kill its texture flag so it uses no bmps.

Well, i gotta get the authorization from Alpha for the model, and the weaps are a mixed bag from the legacy Alphasim and Fox Four CFS2 Seafury's. So you guys can help by having those items installed already.

Canopy texture is also a problem in FSX, while I can get it transparant it makes a lot of other bits transparent too, torpedo rack and rocket mounts are 2 affected seems they all call for that same bit of the BMP.

Uploaded tonight...should be downloadable by morning. I only included two clean models - the VC and the racer. The torpedo version was omitted to avoid dealing with the modeled ventral rack with torpedo. The dp will have a torpedo payload to compensate.
