View Full Version : Any idea what causes this?

Hi,
I having been playing around with the AH Skyrocket because I am trying to resurrect one of my favourite what if campaigns from CFS1.

I was hoping to use Gary Burnsīs Battle of Britain airfields but the plane just sort of bounces around a bit and then I get a prop strike.

I tried it on one of Achimīs bases and this is what I am seeing:

The plane sits normally on the ground when standing still but once I start to taxi down the runway the tires sink into the ground.

I have tried adjusting the contact points in both the air file and the aircraft.cfg with no success.

Any thoughts?

thanks
Gavin

1. Your tires visual dont match the math tires. 2. when you rotate the rotation point is further aft of the visual location of the tires 3. Your Air file doent match your aircraft.cfg 4 I always let the air file do all the work 5. Save the contact points from the aircraft config somewhere then delete. 6. start up CFS2 and see where the air file is putting your wheels........... 7. Edit the airfile ....move wheel further forward....delete contact points everytime from aircraft.cfg 8. Your spring loading is too soft or dampers 9. Remote possibility............it rained very hard the night before in sim land....and the runway is saturated and gooshy

I've tried flying the thing in QC and gave up, it's probably the worst aircraft sim I'm ever flown, but something has to be I guess. I don't know if the real plane flew like this or not, it's a dog in sim. I keep it,maybe someone will someday check it over and improve it, but I flew it twice and deleted it from the AIRCRAFT folder. I thought the Raiden, I-16, and Beaufighter were lousy flyers(they are stall machines)in this one I suggest:

1. Take off(if you can get it in the air)
2. Go to 5000 feet
3. Bail out

AH's Huricanes and F3F are first class, this one sucks.

If it is a converted FS2004 plane....

I would redo both the aircraft.cfg and airfile.....the way you like it to be

If it is like Mike Stones AT-9 jeep.......which I suspect the math comes from (airfile and cfg)....

It was modeled to be nasty.......because the planes were nasty............???

So.........redo and play with the math ........if you have the time and like the plane

Hi TB,
It is a Fs2004 converted one, and as Rock suggests if you run the airfile through AirWrench it will make it more compatible with CFS2 and cetainly flyable and then you adjust the contact points in the new aircraft.cfg that will be created.

Cheers Shessi

Backup the aircraft.cfg file then try replacing the contact points section with the following:

[contact_points]
point.0=1 -19.0, 0.0, 0.8, 2703.329,0,0.567,0,0.296,2.5,0.732,5,5,0,0,0
point.1=1, 3.4, -6.917, -5.25, 2755.906,1,0.567,0,0.395,2.5,0.732,5,5,2,0,0
point.2=1, 3.4, 6.917, -5.25, 2755.906,2,0.567,0,0.395,2.5,0.732,5,5,3,0,0
point.3=2, 0.917, -21.0, 0.917, 1574.803,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,5,0,0
point.4=2, 0.917, 21.0, 0.917, 1574.803,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,6,0,0
point.5=2, -19.167, 0.0, -1.917, 1574.803,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,9,0,0
point.6=2, 6.417, 0.0, -2.0, 1574.803,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,4,0,0

static_pitch= 11.30
static_cg_height= 4.0

Hope that this helps. You may have to tweak it a bit.

I'm using a widescreen monitor. It seems that the contact oints are a little differend between a standard and widescreen monitors, at least for me.

Another thought.

It could be a scenery problem. Some runways sit on the scenery at the right height and others don't exactly fit, different mesh,etc. Do other planes do the same thing on that runway?

This aircraft is the one we should have had durring the 1st 2years of WWII in the Pacific as a fighter insted of the F4F.It could out dive out climb and out turn the Zero as well as fight at high alts. It had good fire power, protection for the pilot and self sealing tanks.The main reason we didn`t have it was because we needed planes and the F4F was starting into mass produced and it would have taken time to gear up for production of this aircraft.

I will start checking them out.

TB - it is a "CFS2" aircraft according to Aeroplane Heaven, however they released a CFS2 version and an FS2002 version. It looks to me like they took the FS2002 mdl and just added a dp. Having said that my experience with it is nothing like yours, I find it flys well and dogfights pretty well.

Voyager, i will check out your contact points and report back, I donīt think it is airfield related.

Rockster - lets see what happens without any contact points in the aircraft cfg.

Gavin,
I don't know if this is related, but I have found the same sinking around a Achim's Brest-Litovsk base. I assumed that the trouble was with the aircraft...then again it could be global warming making the ground boggy!:icon_lol:

... But in the same vein...

I have several planes of indeterminate origin that will NOT accept a contact points correction - even small changes [+/- .005] in the point cause the aircraft to roll nose forward, or wing over ON THE GROUND and explode. They will, however, stay perfectly still IF their tires are a foot off the ground...

Oh sure, I'm using the latest version of AirWrench... and I've tried to juggle the CoB and tire size.

Any Thoughts ?

Aircraft.cfg, and Aircraft.air

Center of Gravity Above Ground

Fuselage Angle

Landing Gear

Scrape Points

You get these right in the air file..............

Aircraft config just excepts them and copies........

but if you change........air file and don't erase aircraft.cfg

previous settings remain unless you delete ......conctact points, static height, and angle.....

Converted FS2004 aircraft have this huge aircraft.cfg that has all kinds of bugga boos ......................that cfs2 does not use...........I just dont edit the cfg........I eliminate and let airfile set .............
