Looking for a little input, in the past month I've experienced 2 app crashes (blue screens) flying FSX while using glass cockpits, Auto-Pilot and ATC window. In both cases I get info screens telling me that it's Nvidia driver related, yet here is more specifics that seem to indicate otherwise, I'm out of my depth here.

I'm running Vista 64 on an Q-9650 OC'd to just 3.6, liquid cooled, with 4 GB of RAM, and Nvidia 280 with 182.50 drivers. Not sure why the above info mentions Hotmail, as far as I know I never used it, I keep my E-Mail stuff running with the minmum bells and whistles.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

PS: I was not signed on to MSN or MSGR I always reboot to a clean environment before booting FSX. Both items metion hmssm9.dll as the fauling module?

I found this after a search on the web:
The library reference here is actually part of MSN 9 (as in, MSN Explorer) which isn't
> required to use Messenger. Are you actually using MSN Explorer or MSN Dialup access? If
> not, a quick uninstall of MSN 9 from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel will most
> likely solve this.

I don't have an MSN9 folder in Programs and Features, my msn version is 9.60.0053.2200 because I do apply most windows updates. And I'm on Verizon DSL "with" MSN something or other.

you could try running a program called "Game Stopper" I'm still searching it. But it stopps all background apps running that may interfere with your game. Also runs a quick defrag to release extra ram.

You are running MSN9 otherwise it would not tell you that your running msn 9.60.0053.2200 (that = 9)

you might want to go into your Administration tools/services and look for a MSN service that is running. Change it from "automatic" to "Manual" that way when you open up MSN 9 is when it will start running, not when you are just working around. Otherwise it will constantly ping Hotmail and msn news looking for updated information. and if there is a COM issue then you will continue to get this crash. Also you could try and uninstall msn (goodluck) and reveert back to a older version that may be compatable with Vista 64.

Personally I would run away from VISTA. Update to windows 7 and save some FPS and head aches.

That sounds logical, I'll see if I can find that service, at some point I will dump Vista when I get a 2nd box up and running again. Thanks.

Another thing is auto-updates. Scary.. They have messed up my FS installations many times before..

I agree, I've always have the Windows Update service set to manual and wait a few days after the second Tuesday of each month to see if anybodies having issues with the current updates on offer then I manually pick and choose what I think I need to install. But, every now and then a given update turns Windows Update back on to Automatic so I check after every update session to see what services were turned back to Auto that I had set to Manual.

Unfortunately the cryptic names and descriptions in the Services area aren't allowing me to zero in on what service this could be. I think I'll look into an end it type program for just MSN and Messenger. I'm already running pretty lien on Services with only 28 0r 29 at bootup. Nothing more annoying than turning off something you need, been there done that , don't wish to do it again, LOL.

There may very well be a Tools/Settings in MSN and MSGR to stop this but I can't find it.

Just thought of something else, I've got Process Explore, maybe I can temp stop MSGR before I boot the game.
