Thought it might be interesting if people shared where they were born and any unusual circumstances. For instance, I was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in the hospital parking lot, I guess I was in a hurry to enter the world.

I was born in Chillicothe, Ohio. Chillicothe is the name the Injuns called the place...it means Beautiful Valley...not sure what tribe...Delaware, Adena, Shawnee or Hopewell....all four lived in the area at various times.

Unusual facts of my birth: I was my parents' 3rd child. I was 3 weeks late. My mother was in labor for 3 days. Delivery took 3 hours. The umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck 3 times. I was purple from lack of oxygen....and nearly died 3 times. I did not go home until I was 3 weeks old.

Oh, one thing that I forgot to add that any of you who have read my seemingly endless array of mindless drivel posts may find interesting...I had severe speech and language problems as a child. Stuttering, verbal and visual dyslexia and I was painfully shy. 4 years of intense speech therapy got me talking and reading/writing properly....and I have not shut up or stopped writing since.

Hey All,

I was born in the hospital on the Ft Monmouth Army base in Ft Monmouth, NJ. The Doctor was a Major the attending nurse a Captain. I guess that makes me an Army brat. :salute: Couple months later I was at Fort Huachuca AZ - a few months after that my Dad was out of the Army. I have always maintained that since I was born on "federal" property I can claim any state I want as home and so I am not an easterner but a westerner "born" and bred :bump:

Dad was a Marine on isolated duty in Kodiak Alaska, so mom stayed with her folks out in the country in SW Arkansas that year. Grandpa and them went fishing one weekend down in the Red River bottoms and left mom at the house by herself. By Saturday evening they decided that the fish weren't biting and came back home to find mom in labor. So they hauled her to Texarkana and I was born in the old St Micheals Hospital about a block from the Texas state line. If the fish had been biting, I'd have been born at home.

The hospital is now a minimum security prison for first time non-violent drug offenders.

There you go folks, Canucks produce some fine legs, I was found screaming in a delivery room in Halifax, Nova Scotia, about 6 hours drive south of where C9G was born. 23 years later I won the "Best Legs" contest at the local Press Club (beat out 2 women too who were NOT impressed) so that give me two things in common with C9G, Atlantic Canada born and great legs...lol

I am doing my family history and recently discovered the cable my father received to announce my arrival, he was on HMCS Ottawa at the time somewhere in the Med, gotta love the Navy signal guys, it had 40 or more Congrats scribbled on the back before it got from the radio room to his radar plotting station.

I was born (two weeks late) in my parent's bedroom in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England on Mother's Day 1957 (Mother's Day in the UK is in March not May like NA). I had started making an appearance on my due date but as there was snow on the ground I must have said stuff it and went back into the warmth!

My brother (older by 10 years) was made to sit on the stairs with his gift to my mother while I was being delivered and whined and complained that it wasn't fair that he had to wait just because I was being born! I get the distinct impression he has resented my existence ever since. :frown:

My uncle Orland's second wife...Kathy....had 2 children when they got together..meaning, she came into the family with kids from her first marriage. Casey was 2 months younger than me, Cindy was 3 years older. I was 12 or 13 when Orland and Kathy got married....pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Hormonal Nuclear War that boys go through. Suddenly, there is this super hot chick around...but I'm really not supposed to have dirty thoughts about her because she is my cousin...even though we aren't really related other than through a piece of paper that says that my uncle is her mom's husband. The following 3 or 4 years were pretty hard. Shortly after turning 18, Cindy moved to California for college. About a year later I was at my best friend's house and he had just gotten the new issue of Club magazine in the mail.....now for those who do not know, Club magazine was a raunchier version of Playboy....much raunchier. Bub, my best friend since age 9, tossed me the magazine and says "check out the babe on pages 23 to 30". I flip through the mag to find the babe he wants me to see....and fell out of my chair....cause right there in her birthday finest was no other than my "cousin" Cindy. I did not know if I should look at them or not...I mean after all, she is my cousin...but only by paper. Okay, Okay...I looked...SHE WAS FREAKING HOT!

I was born in NYC and remember being sent home early from school the day when JFK was shot. For years I was told I must have been adopted as I didn't act like anyone else in the family! Most of my family here is either NYPD or NYFD. I returned here to NYC area a few years back to help my mom and my Dad passed last year...I miss NC very much...the laid back country life with living off the land and hunting or fishing anytime I wanted is darn near now impossible. i actually found out
that my oldest sister was adopted
no one in my family ever told me or her
i only found out when i had a newspaper round
and had a chat with a customer over a cup of tea
and she asked which one are you!
is that your real father
i was shocked well it was a small village and people then knew everything
after that i thought well its not a big deal
but actually it is not for me but my sister
she spent a long while looking for her real parents
never found them
today we are not close
that is sad, she is and always has been my sister
but once she found out
lives changed
they say blood matters but brother and sisters
who grew up together
matters more to me
sorry for the rant just got me thinking

Born in Holbeach,Lincolnshire, England in June 1952.

Dad was a Policeman and in those days Police officers often lived in houses attached to the Police Station - so 'Police Station' is the address on my birth certificate. That part of England is very flat and produces millions of flowers so it has the second name of New Holland.

On an aviation note, Lincolnshire was also known in WW2 as 'Bomber County' due to its huge number of RAF/ USAAF bases. During the scary days of the Cold War in the 60's, my pal and I would often sneak up to the perimeter fence of RAF Waddington and take in the parked up Vulcans. They were all tooled up with their nuclear payloads ready to go at a moment's notice.

Thank God they never had to.

B.T.W . The avatar isn't me, it's a guy from a popular 80's British comedy series called Allo, Allo !set in France in WW2. It basically took the mickey out of every country involved in the war and remains popular to this day.

Sorry to hear the Henry. Hopefully the two of you will get together someday for a good talk. It's tough enough to know you're adopted, but tougher yet not to know and then find out from someone else. I think I know how she feels... and it's not a good feeling.

Give her a call.... you never know until you try.

On another note.... this is the first time I've said anything to anyone about it. The wife yes but that's all.... and I never talked more about it to her even.

You know how hard it is to not get distracted at age 14 by your very hot Asian 17 year old "cousin"? Oh man, I knew I missed out on something in my life, but couldnīt place it until now:sheep:

I was an "early". My mom had to to descend the ladder when redecorating the house to get to the hospital quick enough - maybe thatīs why I still work in the business... The birth took place, how exciting, in a hospital and I was kept there for a while with only nurses and machines to hug. I still canīt stand hospitals, even more because being early caused some severe health troubles in my childhood (including longer periods of hospital-food).

I was born im my momīs hometown (Duelken), little medieval village on the lower rhine area. Still feel home around this area, though living in the bigger neighboring city now.

Well Hell Ya.....

Great story...Great parents...great ending...:salute:

Atlantic City, NJ , BC(Before casinos :icon_lol:), My biological father abandoned my mom when he found out about my conception and she had to move out of her small town (early 50's) because this was just not done. She raised me on her own for 6 years until she found and married a real man, who I love and could not be prouder of, and who never treated me with anything but the utmost love and respect

On March 14, 2001. My Mom was not feeling comfortable, and was bleeding. She called my Dad, they went to the hospital and at 3:00 the doctors cut her and stapled her back. And I was born. My mom said she feel in love with me the second she saw me, even though I was wrinkled and pruney (i do not know how to spell that one). I have dark brown curly hair and big brown eyes. When I was born, I could not see anything, my eyes were closed, then I can see black and white only. I could not hear either, that's why I cried and cried. Then I was wrapped in a uniform blanket for babies, and they cleaned me, I was put in an incubator like a microwave with a lot of lights that open on the top not on the side. My Mom has a picture of it and a movie without sound, they don't have sound yet on movies, maybe. I went home after four days. And I was sleeping in my crib in the nursery. She said she stare at me when I was asleep. I was allergic to milk when I was a baby, my Mom was allergic to alcohol, my Dad was allergic to water. They are different people, so they separate. From Hannah. Bye. :wavey:

Helena, Montaaana :sheep::sheep:

at about age 3,
my parents split the sheets
and I became the rope
they used to play tug of war.
at age 15 that stopped when my dad died
and I became the permanent man servant
for my moms second family.

kinda funny, I use to think
they were fighting over me.
when I became old and cynical,
I realized they were just
throwing me back and forth,
each trying to get rid of me.

grumpy? who's grumpy?
life's a flippin peach.
now shut up and get back to work.

1955 in Buffalo,NY.9 months and 4 days after a new years eve party where my mother ran into her high school boyfriend.Adopted out 9 months later,Mom was trying to gain custody of my sister from her husband and the lawyer said she never would with an illegitimate child rolling around.

So you say,how did it end? Never got custody of sis (who I met in 1977),never got me back and died an old, bitter and hateful woman. And my sister took all her money.Nice bunch.:d

If I had to choose between Delaware and Florida to live, it would Delaware since we don't have to pay sales tax:wiggle:

This is a great thread!!! Very interesting...

I was born in Nashua, New Hampshire in 1948. Lived there until about 6 years ago when I got tired of the cold weather and shoveling snow!!!! Have 2 older brothers - closest being 8 1/2 years older than me.. (We often joked with the folks that dad was a little frisky when he got home after the war!!!)

For those of you who have found out about things relatively late in life, I would have to say that it was the mentality back then..

I found out late in life that I actually had a sister who unfortunately passed away shortly after birth.. I also didn't find out until 6 months after the fact that 2 of my uncles (one of which I was close too) had passed away while I was in Vietnam.. So I have come to the conclusion that back in that generation, that's the way they handled things - for reason's they thought where best at the time...

Again, I've enjoyed reading this thread - thanks..

Bill

Hueys and M-48 Pattons were the soundtrack of my youth...

My aunt married a GI and went to Los Angeles. Visiting her in 1977 was the most impressive holiday I've ever spent. The trip was with a BEA Super 1-11 from Berlin to Heathrow, then in an Air New Zealand DC-10 to KLAX. Just imagine a 10 year old boy watching Star Wars in a drive-in-cinema for the very first time! Took me some time to figure out why Darth Vader had some serious breathing problems...

Cheers,
Markus.

I was born in Hayward, CA to a super happy father and annoyed Mom. Apparently, my mother kept yelling "I didn't want to have another one you A-hole!" to my dad during my whole delivery. My parents have tried to get me to watch my birth video several times. I won't have it.:icon_lol:

Born in Goddard Hospital in Stoughton, MA (live in Middleboro, about a half hour to the south). I was a month early, and small anyway, which resulted in quite the stay in the hospital's incubator and ICU. Of course, I've also since learned that my mother had a C-section as a result, because in my eagerness to start life early, I forgot the whole thing about turning around and coming out head first.

Yep, from Day 1, I've been ass-backwards. My wife says it explains a lot. :kilroy:
