Lewis is this an update for the 377 or for the Accusim addon? It isn't clear to me but maybe that's an age thing?

I think I might wait a while until the stampede dies down!!!

You should try the gamershell link; if there are no free British servers, try the Dutch one. I got mine at nearly 950 kB/sec.

Great update btw, just the new shiny paints are worth it imho as the old dull finish annoyed me a little.

Outstanding work!!! The new shine looks excellent through all that smoke and those jumpin' gauges made my flight engineer pass out. Dang drunkard! No more scotch and passenger slappin' for him:isadizzy: Now if I can just get her off the ground maybe the gauges will smooth out and the fire trucks will stop chasing me for starting all those brush fires. I'm glad nobody can see what I'm doing to this beautiful bird. It's downright embarassing:gameoff:

I was finally able to d/l and install....

Like Scratch said those gauges are jumping all over the place and the engines belch smoke big time. It seems a bit harder now to get off the ground and establish a good rate-of-climb. I haven't had engine overheat issues. But man the workload for one guy is just too much. You really need an FE to manage the systems while the pilot flys the plane.

one thing i've found, its a heck of a lot easier to fly if you set the turbos to auto useing the shift+2 panel :wavey:

There have been some good posts on the A2A forum regarding the 377 and Accu-Sim and how to stay ahead of the game. The trick is to get it into AP on the climb out early enough (i.e. after wheels and flaps are up and she is climbing at the correct rate) so that you can get the engines changed from take-off settings to climb/cruise settings and then go back to the pilot's seat and change to the required course. After that it is a case of switching between the two seats as required. Once you are on the correct course and in AP there's actually very little work for the pilot to do and most time will be spent at the Engineer's station watching gauges and making any minor adjustments required.

Nils, how are you finding the repaints on the 377 with SP1?

Someone asked on the A2A forums if the repaints still worked and if they showed the new metal effects. I don't think the mapping changed too much (with the exception of the new painted areas for the tail fold) and I would imagine the bare metal areas would need to be repainted to show the specular effects the 'stock' paints now sport.

I am interested to know so I can let the guys know on the A2A forum.

Overall impressions of the update so far:
Love the swooshing air sound when you turn on the defrosters.
You can hear the APU start somewhere in the belly of the airplane.
Engine start sequence is perfected. Love the random or unpredictable firing time.

BUT ... that's as far as I get.

I have practically zero throttle response. Not even enough to keep the engines from heating or fouling up. I can just barely taxi with full throttle before the copilot reminds that the engines are getting a bit warm. Forget about take off.

A bit of a dissapointment as I love the improvents and new skin.

Do you have just FSX SP2 installed Richard or do you have the Acceleration add-on?

If you only have SP2 then you should see this thread on the A2A forums....

http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=12369

Unfortunately a SP2 only bug got through our testing procedures but the hot fix does cure it.

This bodes the following question:

What does Acceleration have that SP2 doesn't :ques:

Tako_Kichi

Acceleration provides manual control of the turbochargers which is a feature not found in SP2.

Fundamental piston engine features: Acceleration has turbo and supercharging while SP2 turbocharging only (which serves as... supercharging)

If your performing manual start-ups make sure to return the Propeller Control Switches back to Auto after you cycle the props. If they are still on manual when you go to apply the throttle it will create exactly the situation your describing.

Also make sure the master RPM lever is moved back up. I like to keep mine initially at 85% for take off.

It's all about advanced engine management. The B377 is only a (very good) platform.

Wing Nut,

Open your cowl flaps and have max prop RPM. 1000-1200 RPM is a nice RPM for max cooling when on the ground.

Always advance throttles slowly. These engines were very sensitive to fast throttle response, you should be able to slowly count to 5 going from idle to full power. If you do advance throttles too fast, you may get some smoke or skipping. If you suspect your engines are fouled up as a result of low idle or fast throttle movements, slowly advance the throttles to 2000 rpm and hold for about 5-10 seconds than back them back to idle.

Scott.

All is well, have performed several takeoff and landing all system go. Forgot about the cowel flap once had a 4-engine fire, road it out put all fires out had two engines made an emergency. Super fun !!

I have been turning off the engines manually to practice start up procedures. Is there a way to start cold with engines off at a given location ??

Thanks Mucho Fun !!

Cheers !!

Sure there is and it is covered on page 11 of the SP1 manual. :d

Hit <shift+3>'Shift+3' to call up the 'Controls' pop-up panel and then click on the 'Cold Start' text button. This will set all systems to 'cold and dark'.</shift+3>

Hi Larry,
i hope Sean will update his great repaints so that they will depict the new bare metal look.

Ime not sure what to change , does their paintkit have the new bare metal textures? or is it just an alpha layer change? I have not had time to get the update yet been real busy altely at work.

Well, I was planning on seeing how long I could defer the overhaul, but...

Launched off to Istanbul and over the Black Sea heard all sorts of sputtering. Secured #4 and checked the mx hanger: 1-3, Condition: Excellent. No. 4? "Experienced a rare and sudden failure." Must overhaul. Oh well... loving the 377, and I can't wait to see what else A2A have up their sleeves for us.

Tako_Kichi
November 9th, 2008, 23:41
Don't forget you can just overhaul the bad engine and leave the others as they are. It might make for more interesting flying further down the log book when you have three tired engines and one better one. ;)

There is no new paint kit so i guess you would have to make new spec maps, but i'm not a painter and i don't know all changes of the model.
For me it seems that your repaints are working and that they only lack the new bare metal look. But someone of A2A could give you a really useful answer:redf::wavey:

ICDP

It is just an alpha change on the main textures. Simply increase the contrast of the alpha channel to make the paints more shiny.
