View Full Version : A couple of questions about Photoshop

I've had Photoshop 7 for about 3 years now, and I am finally taking the plunge to work with it. I'm getting the basics down and am slowly getting my way around it, but there are a couple of things I can't figure out.

1. In Paint shop, I can have 2 layered paint files open, select the layer on one file, click on the copy icon and paste the layer onto the 2nd layered file. How can this be done in Photoshop? The only way I have found so far is to click on select, load selection, which is like using the magic wand tool. Then I can copy and paste onto the other layered file. In most cases this works, but if I have a layer such as camoflauge, which has soft edges, I don't think it copies all the layer, since the edges are blurred, I don't think the selection process can grap all the pixels. Is there a easy way to just copy and paste layers in Photoshop 7?

2. In Paint shop, when I want to change the color of a layer, I can go to adjust, color balance, black and white points, then manually enter the RGB values that I want to change the color to, is there something similar in Photoshop 7?

Thanks:ernae:

Hi Rob,

I have PS8 and the way I do it is open both files, then select the layer you want to copy from the layer selction menu (on my install the background goes blue when selected.) then I simply click the layer and drag it to the window of the second file and let it go. It then appears in the layer list of the second image, from there I move it up or down the list depending on were I want it.

Hope this helps,

regards Rob.

Thank you Rob! That was a big help!!:ernae:

I also found out that you can right click on the layer you want to copy, select duplicate layer, then when the box pops up, towards the bottom of the box, you will see a destination. Drop the box down, choose the other layered texture file, it will automatically place it on the other texture layered texture file, exactly where it was on the first one!

Hope that made sense,LOL!! It took me a minute to figure it out:redf:

Thanks again for replying!

Brian,

not sure exactly what your trying to do, but start in the >image>adjustments menu. You can 'replace colour' by entering values, and can select the colour by the eye-dropper tool or select the area. it only affects the current layer. You can also use the 'levels' tool (ctrl+L) and adjust with sliders on all colours or individual colour channels. Anyways, mostly what you want is in that menu. Been using PS since version 3, so if you need a hand, you know where I am.

May be... you can try the "color balance", (RGB) so it could "ADD" more or less of the primary colors...

It works similar on CorelPhoto, 8 thru 12...

cheers
