Anyone into operating round engine warbirds, is really going to love this aircraft! Wozza really did an amazing job, of providing an experience to be had in just starting the engine, from the use of the wobble pump to get fuel to the engine, through to ensuring you don't over-prime the engine, which will leave you rather embarrassed at the result. Check Holiday Gift Guides (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?holiday-gift-guides/) and Michaels Ad (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?michaels/). Whether taxiing or flying, the aircraft is truly delightful, and the visuals are stunning.

What a darn great freeware bird! I love the engine start-up, many payware developers could use a little of that! Thank you!

Edit: Hey Jan-Kees, if you want to do a paint on this one, and need an object, this one came to my mind (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Red-Bull--/North-American-SNJ-5/1528113/&sid=352e4d5f85c3756d31217170c8c596d2). Hi Wozza,

I was able to get the model to load. I just deleted the original installation and tried it again. It worked that time....

however....

now the PC locks up when I try to fly the T-6. I can load it, get the engine started but when I start my takeoff roll it freezes....I have to shut down and reboot.

This aircraft is fantastic, I was lucky enough to fly one last summer, and simming in Wozza's T-6 brought all the memories flooding back, the flight model in my opinion is bang on, and I love the start sequence and the little touch of the manual canopy, as I flew with it partially open.

Hi
Thanks for the kind comments

Smashing Time:
Are you running FSX accel ?
if your using sp1 (not sure about sp2) but I did a quick test in sp1 when reinstalling fsx the other day and
found if you change the following in the the [piston_engine] in the aircraft.cfg with

turbocharged=1
max_design_mp=36.00000
min_design_mp=10.00000
you should get it pretty close as sp1 doesn't support superchargers.

I'm having the same problems as Laterial-G, but I didn't want to say anything since I'm the payware competitor, and anything I say would be suspect. I'm running FSX with Accel and I have a 7 year old P4 machine. The only reason I bother to write now is to let it be known that Laterial-G is not the only one having a problem.

I don't know if people have discovered this or not, but Wozza's model has a tail hook option. I was going to try landing it on the USS Monterey, but my computer locked up completely for the fourth time, so I gave up trying.

Despite my troubles I think it's a brilliant bit of modeling. I also think people should be made aware that Wozza was a big help in my development of the SkyUnlimited Texans as well. A true gentleman.

Hi John
thanks for the info.The texan was built on a 6 year old p4 :) and flown till about 3 weeks ago on the same system(just upgraded a little)
Im at a loss at what is causing this, only thing I can think off is the amount of textures or some other item in the external model causing the crash ...we tried changing the sounds and the issues still there??
if anyone else is having any issues at all post away.Ive not received any emails but as its freeware ppl might just give up and delete it :)

Just wanted to say thanks to Wozza for this great airplane. It's easily equal to most payware add-ons. I'll admit to trying to fly it without reading the readme and that was a failure. :) I also tried opening the canopy with "SHIFT-E" and discovered you actually have to open the canopy manually. Nice work!

I'm still having PC freeze up whenever I switch out of the cockpit view. I've tried changing the sound set as Wozza suggested but no joy.

I know this type of problem happened with the Capt Sim 707 when tried in FSX and IIRC it was caused by a gauge. Wozza assured me it couldn't be a gauge so right now I'm stumped as to what is causing the problem.

Any help is appreciated because at this point the a/c is unusable on my sim.

You could take the cab out of the panel folder and see if the problem goes away (obviously you'll have no gauges and probably not be able to start the aircraft). That would either eliminate or otherwise the gauges.

Hi, Lateral G

I had same problems with other planes, what always helps with my system, is to uncheck the "highdef VC" option in the options menue of the sim. Sorry if I use the wrong terms, I own the german version...
Also stay away from complicated addon scenery and try using some program to shut down backgrond processes (Gamebooster or Alcaprit,Alcatrit..?,forgot the name).

There was one AT-6D airframe that was fitted with an inline engine. It was a 575 hp V-770-9 inverted V 12 cylinder air cooled high altitude engine. top speed 244mph ceiling 30,000. Higher and faster than regular AT-6. But engine proved to be mechanically unreliable and a maintenance nightmare.

Roger,

That xml cab file was the culprit. I removed it from the panel folder and the aircraft works now without freezing the PC when switching views.

I still have gauges. The only difference is when you load the aircraft and start a flight the engine is already running. Otherwise all is well.

You should be able to easily modify the aircraft.cfg file based on those specs, though I rather like the stock performance. She'll be a real treat to fly in FTX's PNW Blue scenery (when released).

Hi
Well I suppose thats good news thanks Roger and Lateral-G this ones been bugging me :)
but it make no sense ahh ya gota love fsx lol ;)

If you dont mind doing a bit of trail and error for me as I cant recreate this issue, can you put the cab file back and then open the panel.cfg in notepad scroll down to the Vcockpit entry and comment out the all the gauges.so the section will now look like this

//gauge00=xml!fuel_sys, 48,10,35,31
//gauge01=xml!fuel_system, 84,9,35,31
//gauge02=xml!Glock, 127,13,14,14
//gauge03=xml!gyro_compass, 0,735,350,350
//gauge04=xml!compass, 336,729,350,350
//gauge05=xml!adf, 102,518,450,164
//gauge06=xml!com, 106,238,450,164
//gauge07=xml!engine, 156,9,35,31
//gauge08=xml!over, 204,12,20,20

now save the panel.cfg but leave it open in notepad,Fire up fsx in window mode (when flight is fully loaded hit ALT + enter key) then see if the issue is gone,if so pause the sim,minimise the sim,go back to the panel.cfg in notepad then remove the comment // from the frst gauge save then back to the sim, then either go to alt menu bar aircraft select aircraft and re select the texan or you can assign a keystroke in controls assignments for aircraft(reload) this will force the changes in the panel.cfg to be applied ion fsx without a full restart.just keep removing the comments form each gauge one at a time, reloading aircraft till it locks and let me know
Sounds complicated but its pretty easy to do if it is,then could you fire up fsx with the texan and
then menu bar,flights,save flights, call it wozza_tex or something like that then email me any wozza_tex files in my documents/Flight Simulator X Files folder
Thanks again

You should be able to easily modify the aircraft.cfg file based on those specs, though I rather like the stock performance.

Yeah, although I might need to dig up a bit more info about the Cyclone.

Wozza,

I found the culprit:

gauge04=xml!compass, 336,729,350,350

I sent you an email....

-G-
Hi
Thanks!!! I have to say thats not one of the gauges I would have picked as being the prob
as the gyro compass uses the same code.....hmmm must be one of the bmp's
Ok looks like there is a slight difference in the bmp size might be corrupt but cant work out why that will cause a lock up on certain pooters
here is a different cab file with the bmp's the same for the gyro and whiskey compass see if that works
rename the ext from txt to cab;)
Thanks again this one was driving me nuts :)

Ahhhg you younguns always running around at Mach 1 with ya hair on fire ;)

Up the super charger boost and raise the detonation onset or get the mechanic to install water injection
whilst he in is there(under the hood) get him to shave a few thou of the heads and up the compression ratio
You do realise that you wont be able to race at reno as these mods are frowned upon :D

Hi
did you make the changes to the engine section that was posted somewhere here?
if not set the turbo flag to 1 and raise the max mp to something like 40 to 45

Jets stopped being fun when they stopped using rocket motors :icon_lol:

Ah. Was the missing turbo the reason for the MP sticking to the mid-20s?

It was an odd observation during my test flight. I just blamed the cold canadian winter for it. :icon_lol:

Gonna test that first, maybe I won't need the "new" engine at all.

This is one flying today, with US registration. It's appeared at Oshkosh, etc..

Beautiful, simply beautiful...

Thanks for doing this, and giving it to us to play with!

Thanks! Will you let us know when you've uploaded the new model?

In case no one noticed, the four exterior textures were re-sized to 2048x2048 for the RCAF repaint, and they work just fine on my middle-of-the-road system. Certainly makes things extra sharp.

Hi,

I'm new here, so this is my first post. I just wanted to say that I've downloaded the model itself and the texture improvements, and both of them made my day!

Brilliant stuff, even better because they're freeware in these harsh times!!

Thank you so much!

Been doing some carrier circuts and bumps with it. Yes looking forward to a SNJ (Navy version) with an animated hook. The hook is there, just not animated! Am I not reading something, not getting the tailwheel to swivel (in the animation).

Aerobatic enough, does a sweet hammerhead turn. great three point!

Should work Tom...It wont drop if aircraft's not running though
basically use the options panel check the tail hook,then the default key stroke or use the handle right hand sill just behind the panel dome light.
Ill be if I can catch a cable and save the prop :) I could move the hook back a bit in the aircraft.cfg but I like the fact you have to hit the deck just right or else she noses over ....I just cant do it all the time lol

Just a note to reprinters, hold off uploading your repaints for a day or two,ver1.2 is just about done and this uses
a new texture for the engine cowl which will fix the blackout mapping and make it easier to do the chequered pattern
...any other bugs to report ???

There is a bug with the ADF and it's documented in the "read me" file.

The adf and com radios need the avionics switch on(red lights on radio face will light) and the volume switch clicked or mouse wheeled on, the adf has a bug somewhere ,so it also needs one of the tune knobs turned (via the mouse wheel) to start working

Yep, she's a good carrier trainer. Been using the CV6 Enterprise with AI carriers. As with a number of other planes that I have used for arrested landings in FSX accel the nose over pitch on catching a wire is dependent on the over the deck speed at touchdown. A good check on your technique!

I knew some folks who flew this as an advanced trainer in WWII and they though it was a real handful. Perhaps a statement about their lack of expertise at the time? This one seems pretty benign. Another friend had as a would be Naval Aviator his first plane a T-28, indeed a piece of heavy iron!

Cheers: T

Hi Tom
Yeah she is a bit to balanced/benign I always tend to err on the side of soft fde as it empowers the end user ;)
and Im not much on fde know a few tricks thats about it :D
you can alter section 1534 to a positive number and she will be more of a handfull...have you gotten into a spin yet ?

Hi
I did do the bare prop boss but didnt include it as I never could bet the blurred part looking right due to the animation.
also it was pretty nasty in the polly count :)
Basically the texan was just a personal project to have play with what is possible in fsx from a design point of view, its the reason there only 1 model and its a bit of a mess :)
Are there any more variants coming ? .....not from me,but there maybe others at a later date by one of the ppl that worked on this project.

There is nothing quite like reading instructions! If only I did....:isadizzy:
My only issue with this awesome plane was steering on the ground; I could never get the tailwheel unlocked...
...then the other night I decided to "zoom in" on the panel to read the notices - and there is the instruction - hold stick forward to unlock tailwheel - and it works beautifully!
What an amazing piece of engineering - fantastic!
