Having a problem here,the A/C does not register when I start the game,I get the corrupted or missing file message.:kilroy:

There is missing white space, so for now you can just cut and past this into the .xpd file and it will work fine. I wasn't sure where the white space was missing so I just cut out all of the description text lines and it works now.

"In the Catalina GRII-A version (float plane), when starting from the water, it is not modeled with landing gear, but the game still assumes it has landing gear and you need to press the G key to raise the imaginary landing gear. So simply put the float plane wasn't modeled the same way for whatever reason; probably a choice of "either or but not both"?

I'm backing up my "clean" ETO folders and am going to install these planes now, thank you Lewis for the quick-fix solution to the .xpd file error(s?) which I assume is the same for the W_QZ.

I enjoy the thrill of debugging CFS3 almost as much as I enjoy flying in it. To wit : I had to copy the .xpd files to desktop to open them with Notepad as I recieved errors when trying to do so with Adobe Reader. Hopefully I can get these AC tucked in correctly after the above mentioned wrenching as I've been looking forward to flying these Catalinas.

Hint: in the <Description String=""/> using note pad in the text change all of the " for ' and every thing will work fine :jump:

Got them in using Lewis' advice, will now check into what gosd has stated. Thanks fellas!

Indeed the error was in the description, removing the description altogether worked as per what Lewis posted.

Then I applied what gosd said, and I did find a few instances of " (quote mark) being used inside of the descriptive lines instead of ' (apostrophy).

When I made those corrections and reloaded the aircraft (after deleting the .bdp files first) it still showed ******** asterix in the descriptions.

It took me a minute to realize the situation there, but it came to me from years of modding CFS`1 :


Even with the " 's inside of the .xdp files being corrected to ' 's the descriptions themselves are too long.

They are at the time of this writing beyond the character limit and display as *****************.

So I trimmed them down to just the informations given after the Note : and the aircraft specifications that follow them.

With that done, I have those AC installed now with a proper descriptive for both aircraft working, and totally loving it.

I suppose I shall notify both the author Ted (Nachtpiloten) Kaniuka, and Beau Brummie about this little hiccup immediately.

I cannot thank you guys enough for your shared knowledges and expertise in troubleshooting, Hats off to the SoH Forums~

Well the Cat is out of the bag in more ways than one. I finished uploading last night (night for me anyway) and intended doing some testing today before I made any announcement...but there are some very keen people out there:icon_lol:

As it appears the Cat problem is with the descriptive string then it is my fault as I added the detail after Ted sent them to me. I'll upload a corrected model ASAP.

I have installed Both (with correct sound and corrected XPD file) ) in CFS3 and when I select "free flight" and try to select the aircraft I have 2 entries with the same name "TK_PBY5A_DH_Y" .... ??
When I select the one or the other CFS3 Crashes ...
Correction 1 aircraft Crashes CFS3 the other flies OK .

But I do not find the "other " Catalina ......


I found why ythe XPD correction is ONLY for 1 of the Catalinas

Ted that is one fine aircraft, and John those are awesome texures. You guys crank these out so often that we take it for granted, but thanks for the hours of hard work for our recreation!

This plane was truly a team effort and my thanks to all involved!!!!

Oh, once in a while I'll cheat and the tunnel gun does not have an exterior door, there were some issues that could not be resolved so a compromise.

Ndicki, it is so cool to take off from the water and reach a height of 2000 feet and cruise at 110 for hours. She really handles well I think just a pleasure to fly a lot like what I have read about the original. Now it is time for you guys to make a variety of missions.

Speaking for me, I really enjoyed making this plane and the guys I worked with were great! Thanks again.

lol - I have been checking your site every day or so since I read you would be having these planes available there.

I have a WWII picture of one getting ready to start engines and they have a crewman - fireguard posted on top of the wing with a fire extinguisher. I recall seeing the same procedure with one being flown at an airshow in Goodyear Airizona 20 years ago. I guess their sweet reputation is really more about after they're up an running without catching on fire.

I met the pilots grandson a few years ago, and he told me the story of how he'd recently gotten the plane's log book back from Slew McCain's estate. That got me interested in doing a skin for the first plane to land on Henderson Field 12 Aug 42. It was a Navy PBY-5A (BuNo 05045)

I've just uploaded the cats again with corrected XDP's. I also took the liberty of changing the short name to something more user friendly as it looks like folk could end up with a number of Cats on their HD.

Now I've got it on my rig, I can see how good a job you've done on all the animations - they really add to the realism. She rolls beautifully down the runway, sails into the sky hands-off and cruises at less than 40% throttle. Like Nigel, I really like watching the surroundings pass from one of the blisters, but the pit is simply first-rate! Thanks to Steve for posting some wip pics a while back or I'd have no idea how he did some of that! :isadizzy:
