Beauties!
The first one isn't exactly a free download, is it?
My house is on the market for a little over £300,000 ($400,000+), so I can bid, say, $280,000 for the Connie & still have change left over for useful extra stuff like engines, fuel, Certificates of Airworthiness, etc. if I'm able to sell the house next week & if nobody else puts in a higher offer...only trouble is, we are supposed to buy another home with the money from selling this one - do you think Mrs RR will mind if we go & live in the Connie?
BTW : that's the best thing I've ever seen for sale on ebay!!!!!! :)

Now that would fit nicely in my backyard !
Oh, wait. I don't actually have a backyard. Bugger. :costumes:
What was it sold for ? It only says 'starting bid $275,000'

It wasn't sold. According to the folks on the propliner's board that I found the link, the aircraft in the pics is what is now the Brietling Connie in Europe. The ad says that the aircraft in the pics is not the one for sale. There are not many surviving Connies left and the best guess is that the one trying to be sold is one that has sat abandoned at Manila in the Phillipines for years. If so, it's wings are too corroded to pass an airworthyness inspection. The owner is not very forthcoming with details on the Connie's ID, whereabouts and status.
Seems the wing panels were milled by a special machine out of an aluminun alloy that's very susceptable to corrosion. The machine was scrapped years ago and it's no longer possible to make those wing panels. So for all the currently flying Constellations, it's just a matter of time until they too are permanently grounded.
The owner of the Connie on e-bay is trying to unload his problem on someone else.

NOW you tell me! And I just swapped a house in Central London for it. We're off to Burkina Fasao to collect it tomorrow, just as soon as Mr Bojangles (the nice man who used to own my Connie) arrives at Heathrow. :mix-smi:

I love that Blue Angel Connie. I sware the Connie is the sexiest prop Airliner ever built. The Dehavlin Comet it the sexiest Jetliner ever built.

I think that parts have to be replaced if 1/8 of the skin has been corroded/ worn away.
Magnesium alloy's worst! The Whirlwind and Wessex both have it and its a bugger to re-skin, it doesn't bend easily, it doesn't cut easily and the magnesium makes it corrode easily
