How will it help Moe for FSX? I thought FSX was sort of brain dead when it came to super DX graphics? You know, like back in the last century.

Not sure about this update as my system is running Directx 10.1 just had a closer look this info from microsoft might help
To check which version of DirectX is on your computer

Open DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking the Start button http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/Windows%207/Main/4/f/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg, typing dxdiag in the search box, and then pressing Enter.
Click the System tab, and then, under System Information, check the DirectX version number.

Strangely my Navidia control center reports Directx 10.1 but using the above routine it tells me I'm running DirectX 11.
Procede with caution me thinks

I think there may be a step missing in your post CavOK.

Start > Run > dxiag
is what worked for me.

Mine says DirectX 11 also.

Don't worry, if it's the wrong version Windows will not install it.

Ian.

it took two tries...first attempt XP indicated that I already had it...but I didn't - so I retried it and it went in fine.

in point of fact - I am noticing a slight improvement in FSX frame rates and fluidity

I downloaded it and installed and DX told me the version I had was newer and more up to date ? (got it a month ago, dated Ver. 7.00,6002) This shows a later version number and looks legit, don't know why my system says what I have is newer? Dxdiag shows mine as DX 11 also.

Rialrunner130 I think you may be running XP, Vista is as quoted from the MS site. No great issue it amounts to the same end.

Nope I'm running Vista. Perhaps different versions of Vista work differently.

I downloaded it and launched the installation. It said that I had already a more recent version of DirectX.
I'm using Win XP.
The top description text says about August 2009. Most likely I have already installed this file several months ago...

yes that was my experience too..so instead of using the link - I went to the m/s directx site myself and on that try - it worked properly.

Yep, that worked for me too.

Ditto here, worked from the MS site DL, looks like it installed some extra .dlls, doubt they're anything that will effect FS.

For me it seems to have reduced the number of game crashes in Rise of Flight.

I read this:
http://www.guru3d.com/news/directx-enduser-runtimes-february-2010/

It says "...This distro doesn't just update DX9, but also updates DX10/DX11..."
Is that true? What is your experience?

I run the update successfully so far.
But I forgot to check the version number before.
Now it's saying: DxDiag 6.01.7600.16385 32-bit-Version
(My system is Win7 64 bit)

Windows site says it updates core files within DX. All previous versions remain installed on your puter, even when newer versions installed. Programs not designed for newer versions run on the older ones. These are what arte being updated.

kdl: check on the bottom of your DXDiag readout. there is a button to press to run the 64 bit diag.
