View Full Version : Total of Different Airframe Types for CFS3

Hello all.
My question is,
I was wondering how many separate types of AC(esp. Freeware) there REALLY are for CFS3?
I personally have @ 120-140, including the rough flyable betas.
Ans I'm not including development, like P-51B and P-51D.

If this topic garnishes enough interest, I'll invest the time to dig through my CDs, and list them all.

Respect...

An interesting idea but unfortunately very difficult to keep track of. During MAW's embryonic years, I tried to maintain a grid of all aircraft coming out of that project. That was a relatively small group and that task proved pretty much impossible.

An alternate approach might be for you to scan the combatant air forces of WWII, identify the aircraft that represented, say, 90% of those air forces, and then see how many of those aircraft are missing from CFS3. Wikipedia would have lists of the aircraft names and perhaps even the quantities used. Then you can start googling for particular names to see how many actually exist for CFS3.

As an aside, some aircraft exist as AI-models, which means that they don't have a virtual cockpit and so aren't really flyable.

e.g. France's main fighters (you could do the same for bombers and such) might be considered as the D.520, MS 406, MB 151, MB 152, H-75, and Po-630, Po-631. All of these exist for CFS3 but the MB 151 and MB 152 are AI-only versions.

I've got 1379 different skins installed, with dozens more downloaded, and waiting for a rainy day to get set up.

I'll have to count the different airframe types.

Actually, I've got 985 different skins installed (plus 3280 in OFF), with dozens more downloaded, and waiting for a rainy day to get set up.

I'm at 305 on the unique airframes, but that includes model variations. :salute:

Well, I thought it might be a good reference idea for anyone who might be unaware of a model available.

Might inspire one to refine...
I should find time to refine that F-15E,
and/or Kyushu J7W1 Shinden...

Anyone ever build a XP-54?

I'll list what I have soon...

I rather like this idea, and I'm interested in
the selection criteria for this list.

A separate list for payware? (or just a column to indicate)
Would a Razorback P-47 be separate from the newer bubble canopy?

Anyway you do it, UniformDeltaKilo, would be fine!

Actually, I would love input/opinion as to how it is listed.

Upon consideration, P-51B and P-51D are probably different enough in flight dynamics to warrant separate listings, I feel. Especially highest quality models as what AvHistory has built, where the differences in performance/handling, ect can be felt/noticed/learned. However, every little minor change in say a spit or Bf-109 that uses a stock FM...I dunno. They might be listed, but are they really a different airframe model? A paintjob or extra antenna doesn't really make a different AC, IMHO. But if one is trying to honor a relative, they might wish to find THE model Grampa used to fly. I can understand this completely.

What is the consensus here, guys?

I'm on that list right now...

P.S. Hey Fire! Miss flying with/against ya, Buddy! :salute:
You ever finally graduate past that antique pile of matchsticks? :d

As a suggestion, what would be useful for me is a multi-column listing with something like :

| RAF | spitfire | spitfire Mk. I | spitifre-mk-1-XXX | <list of additionnal skins> | <infos (including author ...)> | download link or commercial site

for each standalone aircraft. This would be game-related, and also easy to search.

Here is a rough list.
There are repeats, as AvHistory did refine many of the models that were available. Plus, not all separate types for Korean war, or the OFF WWI AC are listed.

Please feel free to contribute and refine...
