Collin, Is it possible to use this ship in FS9?
Is it possible to change the numbering to "32" for my old ship, the USS Leyte?

By the way, you did a superb job in modeling a long-hull Essex Class Carrier. It is perfect in every way. I can even find the corner I used to sleep in when we had night flights. - Unbelievable!

Yes helldiver you can use her in FS-9 but only as a moving ship (no landings) unless Collin makes her a BGL scenery object. I'm pretty sure a simple repaint of the ships number will give you the USS Leyte I know this goes against every thing in the grain of your existence but hopefully he'll do a SBC 125 conversion to her in the future (ducking and covering head :banghead: ) :d I dont like to dent them pretty birds up front when i miss the wires

Capt Tenneal - What's a SBC-125 conversion?

crashaz
December 1st, 2006, 15:42
SBC-125 is the conversion of the Essex class to the angle deck versions Helldiver. Knowing though that you want a straight deck version... maybe we can ask Collin to a FS9 version with Hard dec. Or he can ask one of us to add the platform.

Very nice work Collin! Good to see y back to releasing!

It is, but it will have to wait until I finish the Fox4 model and the CFS2 models and textures before I work on a lesser sim.
In the meantime, work out where (lat&long) you will want her placed.

You can have night flights with this lot as well, they have the proper flight deck lighting.

HelldiverCapt Tenneal - What's a SBC-125 conversion?

This will help you when its open.
www.history.navy.mil/photos/usnshtp/cv/scb125cl.htm - 21k -

and here for the development of SCB and FramII in the Essex class
http://www.skyrocket.de/usnavy/index_frame.htm?http://www.skyrocket.de/usnavy/data/cv-_9__essex_scb27a_sbc-125.htm

Basically, what Capt Tenneal wants is an Essex class with the enclosed bow, angled flight deck, modified island and funnel with little if any guns.:d

The model has been a long time making, well over a year....(yeah..yeah..including waitresses) and I'll be happy to get it off the stocks. Thanks for the encouragement during the time:ernae:

If anyone knows of a publications which has the definitive camo schemes (Measures) and the date worn for this class would they please let me know.

Don't mess her up with Camou, she's beautiful just as she is! As far as an angled deck conversion, why abort a handsome ship like this?
My ship never suffered such an ugly indignity. Essex class carriers were designed for good old recip, propeller bearing airplanes. Don't muck up a good thing.:icon_lol:

The modernised stuff is easier to build and have better fps but I have set a date limit for my models (end of Korean war), so those overly large biscuit tins that came after will have to be done by someone else.

Antietam had an angled deck as an experiment about this time so I might get around to her later.

I know your poor ship didn't get the refits, but thats down to your landings, bending everything in sight, chewing up the deck planks just like a Marine Corsair pilot.:costumes:

Our ship was all Navy. We didn't use Marines for pilots. They were used for sea-going bell hops, serving the Officer Of the Day in their shined up uniforms, including a sword to ward off all boarders.
They never got to touch OUR airplanes. Net result most of our landings were perfect.
Well almost...

Agree, or just turn the props by 90 degrees in horizontal mode and you have choppers...

Once the Fox 4 model is finished (which is that seen in the pics), then the short and long hull versions for WW2 will be reworked from the first model and posted with the same textures as the Fox 4 version. Textures for WW2 models will be a seperate download so that the individual can choose what they want and swop the textures over.....well thats the plan anyway:isadizzy: :costumes:

So it should go like this...

Valley Forge50.mdl (Fox 4 model)
long hull .mdl
short hull .mdl

various texture folders.

You probably get tired of hearing this, but it's guys like you that are the heart and soul of this sim. Without the creativity of so many talents the rest of us would be much poorer with the CFS2 experience. I wish developers, especially Microsoft, understood the incredible resource they ignore. Sail on! GDF

Model completed and stands at 16,051 polys with 4 bmp's, she is now at the Fox4 quayside getting fitted out with a proper .dp and .cfg.

I expect after beta testing there will the usual tweaks to be made, but, looks like the workforce has finished on schedule.....fank gawd fer that!:costumes:

Camouflage measures and reconfiguration to WW2 (that means extra guns which = extra polys).

Don't worry, 6 of these ships close together as static infrastructure reduced my fps to 17.:d
