View Full Version : Our Current Project - The A-26B Invader

Milton Shupe

The current focus will be an A-26B Invader for FS9 with FSX compatibility.

As I develop the exterior model, I will be looking at the C and K differences, but the focus is on the B.

Once we get this project near completion, the gmax source will be available to add the C and K versions if someone has interest. Gnoopey or stiz, or anyone may take that on.

I have found that to do our best work and yield the best results without errors, we should stay focused on a base model. Once done, the variants are easy to do.

This is simply my preference in project management.

And now folks .... TA DA!!!!!

I am off to lay out the calibration boxes for the 3-views so I can get to modeling the exterior. Hope to make a lot of progress over this long 3-day weekend. :wavey:

Of course, we have no restrictions for beta testers. All Sim-Outhouse members who are willing to follow the test procedures as well as free-fly their own style to check out our works are welcome. This is freeware for Sim-Outhouse. Its your aircraft and your project. Those who wish to work to improve the end product will be welcome and we welcome the structured feedback.

Now with all that said, you're gonna have to wait a few months!! :jump:

Actually, when we have something to test, we'll need folks with a variety of systems from low to high end. Prior to the start of testing, I'll get everyone interested together and gather up system specs and we'll start from there.

Fair enough?

Here's a bit of curiosity and fact for Milton and everyone else with an interest in this Invader project. I guess most of us are well familiar with Miltons' plus groups Aero Commander, right?

Here goes:

"Douglas had developed plans in the late war period for a civil version of the Invader. One of the key engineers involved was Ted R. Smith, and when Douglas abandoned their civil executive aircraft project to concentrate on the DC-4 and DC-6, Ted Smith left Douglas to move forward with this idea and created the Aero Commander L-3805 which became the Commander 520. The similarities between the Invader and the early Aero Commander are clear."

Hi GLHorton,

Thanks for weighing in here. We appreciate all the interest and Willy will have his hands full of interested, talented, and experienced test pilots. Ah heck, when they see the long, arduous test checklist, many will probably lose interest. :d

Great having you here.

And I'll add this tidbit of trivia:

"The Aero Design & Engineering Co. called the 520 the Aero Commander 520. They actually 'pinched' the name from a Studebaker car, even going to a local scrapyard to buy a suitable car badge and use it to stylise their Commander logo."

I had not realized the connection Invader26 until you brought it up back in December, seems so long ago. :mixedsmi:

Hi Bob,

I was there in 67-68 ... flew in on a 707 to Cam Rahn Bay, then down to Saigon in a C-130, then over to Vung Tau in a Caribou. I appreciate these aircraft a lot more today than I did then. :)

I'm looking forward to release of the A-26B Invader. I designed and released an Invader for FS98 a few years ago. It has always been my favorite aircraft. My uncle flew in the first 'B' versions (gunner) at the end of WWII in Europe. The screen caps look great! ! You guys keep up the great work!:applause:

Mr. Mugel, Mr. Ito has done a P-61 that the resident experts here have turned into a very nice flyer. Have you tried it?

Mr.Mugel
April 3rd, 2007, 11:52
I only tried the old version. Might have to look into the upgrades some time. But I usually fly from VC, so Ito´s birds are not my personal favourites. I know the 61 has a basic VC, but very basic....

Milton,
Since you seem to have liking to Pre-Lear, Piston powered executive aircraft, is there a chance we will eventually see an On Mark Invader? that works with this, or is that way out of the limits of what can be accomplished with the flight model and related package.

Bomber_12th
April 3rd, 2007, 18:44
The On-Mark conversions would definitely be great to have! The problem with them is that it will be like building the aircraft all over again due to the completely different interiors as well as the exterior changes. The source model will be available after the release for any modelers to pick up and modify into other variants - lets hope that some do. ;)

Does that now mean we also won't see an On-Mark refurbished military version of the USAF model A-26A or was it called the B-26K Counter Invader??

Unless one of the team members comes up with a show-stopper, the FS9 package will be uploaded tonight. :d

Once that is done, I will revamp the gMax model for FS2002, and convert all that I find for FS2002 except the panel and gauges. Then I will upload that package (if permissions are granted by the developing team) and make it available to whomever wants to try it. Guppanui (sp?) I believe said he would do the FS2002 remaining conversions and I believe he also said CFS2. I will start a thread concerning the FS2002 conversions.

Then I will release the gMax source for anyone to take to new levels or variations.

Now off to do a final review of the package before uploading. :jump:

So, with the A-26B project wound down, what is next? I beleive the plan, as origionally constituted, stated that work would begin on an A-26C, with the glass nose. Is this still on, or have things changed?
