This photo just came into my possession today and I was wondering if there was a way to research the planes background? Thanks

Only thing I can think of, is to look up the serial number. It looks like a Navy B-25, called a PB-1, or somethin'

PBJ is what the Navy called them.

Tried to look up the tail number at Joe Baugher's and it's not on his list. But that tail number range were B-25D's. Also looking at the national insignia, I'd say that picture was taken in the summer of 1943.

That is what I thought, It was with a bunch of photos of my grandfathers, He was in the Army Air Corp as a radio operator on a B-25 flying Sub patrol over the Gulf of Mexico. I was hoping this may have been the one he was in but the color scheme......

Where would I find info on the serial number?

Thanks

I have some other photos I'll put up Monday that everyone may like, Got quite a bit of a mess here on my desk to go through.

There is a good chance this may be some type of photo you could get at the px perhaps its not an original but an old photocopy, but I also have some old photocopies of my Grandfathers pictures as well. What a mess some with no writing some with writing in pencil that's a bit faded.

The paint scheme looks a lot like a Navy Atlantic scheme. Dunno why it would be on an AAF plane though.

Just double checked it against the Navy Bu Nos for PBJs and that's definitely a AAF tail number.

I don't think it was a AAF number. I ran it here http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/usafserials.html (http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/usafserials.html) and there http://users.rcn.com/jeremy.k/serialSearch.html (http://users.rcn.com/jeremy.k/serialSearch.html). Found nothing as a AAF number but it came up as a Grumman AF-2W Guardian block serching under as a Navy and Marines number.

Baugher had a gap where 41-30400 would have been. And 130400 would have been too late for a WWII Navy Bu No.

It fall into a North American B-25D-15 Mitchell block for 1941

It is a B-25D-15, the colors appear to be olive drab over insignia white, the USAAF "sea search" paint scheme.

So there is a good chance this was his plane, 1941 with the right paint scheme. Here are a couple more I hope everyone enjoys

If these pics are to large let me know and I'll trim em a bit. No Idea of where when or who just thought it was interesting.

Action code "TAC" is a taxiing accident.

I posted your B-25 over on the WIX forum. They are the best at researching WWII warbirds. Hope you don't mind.
