Can't Hear Myself Think!!

I resurrected the Wilco A400 recently and while I don't remember this being a problem before, it sure is now. The engine sounds are so loud that the only way to eliminate them is to turn the sound completely off. The adjustments to the sound in the sim have no effect. I tried turning the engine sounds down to no avail. . .I turned them off and still it made no difference. I can't hear anything else, including ATC the engines are so loud.

Any ideas other than putting them through a sound utility and adjusting the wav files?
