Actually in the video card testing at TechCorp, in which we tested the top 22 video cards last week, we found that two versions of the ATI4870 not just the x2 were faster than the GTX280 and produced faster texture rendering...although I am not allowed to divulge the mfg name brand from the tests, I can tell you one started with H and the other with A

A $100 cheaper, but not necessarily less powerful alternative, is the blazing fast ATI4850 by the same H mfg that had a funny name like ICE-Q4 was blazing fast and even beat out the GTX280 in Far Cry, COD4, and BIA Hell's Highway at resolutions up to 1680x1050 and scored almost equal at 1900x1200 at 4xAA and 8xaf....whoa...ATI is back with a vengence

Nvidia no longer no longer has to look over it's shoulder to see where the competition is...they are now trying to pursue the new leader and the real good news is the drivers are better than Nvidia's. I hope Nvidia keeps it coming competition is good for all of us. So now the ball is in Nvidia's court. I do have one wish. I wish they would all slow down the next video card until the drivers catch up!

NOW for a disclaimer, While in FSX there is no problem with graphics, in fs9 you may need to use ATI TRAY Tools to set your 4800 series video cards to keep it sharp.

Nice to see ATi back on top.As you say , it can only be good for the consumer in the long run as competition drives prices down. It'll be interesting to see what Nvidia will come back with:isadizzy::)

They have already done it most unbiased two card reviews clearly show the NVidia 260/216 clearly outperforming the 4870 bothe in framerates and bang for buck eg:
