Hobart River, Saluda, NC, Fairyland. Shot with my compact Olympus digital. SLR is too big for trekking in these parts.

These were shot January 2nd. I went to Hendersonville, NC to visit an old friend and he and I and three others hiked to the Hobart and Green River Falls, both frozen. I could never get good lighting or composure for Green River Falls, which is much higher and on a very icy, steep precipice.

Hobart Falls is a wonderland, you can walk behind the falls on the upper section, which is easily reached by a little climbing holding on to the evergreens and also in the lower part on the right of the 2nd photo. And this is all evergreen forest, no deciduous trees, that's why there are still leaves on the trees on January 2nd. This just aids in making this entire piece of God's Earth so totally out of this world.

Nice, real nice!

Hey Caz? What would happen if I'd stick my tongue on one of them gigantic icicles?

Yep, that first emoticon would just about describe it. LOL, been there, done that.

Those rocks are slicker than they appear too. We wear small steel spikes on our hiking boots when in this realm.
