That is an excellent shot!

What lens were you using? (not to say it was the lens that made it a nice shot- just curious as I'm currently lens shopping and am paying attention to focal lengths and apertures)

That is .... those are, beautiful shots. There is a Swan Lake in Sumter, SC. I use to go walking there and took pictures of the swans. I loved it during Christmas. It was a beautiful place.

Cool! You could thread a needle with that shot it is so sharp. The Nikon 70-300 must be better than the Canon 70-300. The canon one could really use an update, with ring USM and some better elements. It is quite a bit older than the Nikkor.

That's a cool name... Nikkor. Although Cannon is cool too. :mixedsmi:

Thanks again,everyone
The 70-300 is one of my favourite lens and still gets plenty of use even after I bought my nikon 80-200 f2.8 ,thanks mainly to it's longer reach and surprising sharpness. The VR is a godsend as I shoot handheld exclusively.:)

Here's an old (festive) shot taken with the 70-300 :)

Apart from a 50mm f1.8...I'm afraid not, Panther. Current lens selection is :

Nikon 50mmf1.8
Nikon 18-70mm kit lens
Nikon 70-300mm VR
Nikon 80-200 f2.8
Sigma 28-70mm f2.8

I'm after a lens with a longer reach and have been eying up the Bigma 50-500mm or maybe a 300mm f2.8 prime (with TC). :)

Glad you like the Robin, C9G :ernae:
I took that pic over a year ago when I was visiting a local airfield with my son. That bird was practically tame and landed right beside us as it watched the aircraft taking off and landing!:icon_lol:

I'm after a lens with a longer reach and have been eying up the Bigma 50-500mm or maybe a 300mm f2.8 prime (with TC). :)The Bigma may be the cheaper one of the two, but if it's as good as Canon's 300/2.8, you'll get impressive pictures out of it. Far better regarding quality than the Bigma, I'd say. The Bigma has a very useful range, but IQ is far from exceptional - though fair to good for such a huge range.

So that bird is called a 'Robin' in English ? One learns every day....:)

Have just noticed I forgot to comment on that 'robin'...C9G is right, the colours are excellent, you seemed to have chosen exactly the right aperture for that shot!

Thanks,Joris, though in all fairness the "model" posed for quite a long time in order for me to get a decent shot. The Swan, however, was getting a bit uppity about me being up close. :icon_lol: :ernae:

Great shots Kilo. That little European Robin looks cold, got its feathers all puffed for insulation.

Humans that have never seen a live swan are really amazed at first just how big they are. Folks they are big birds. Despite their beauty, swans are dangerous birds too Kilo, there have been incidents where swans have killed humans (usually young children), especially a cob (male) sitting babes (swans are one of the few birds in which the male shares this duty).

There's another spot down by a local lake that has very tame swan's and ducks. The swans here will happily eat out of your hand....even my 4 year old daughters!:icon_lol:

Geese are just as bad, and you don't need a nest of chics around for them to decide they don't like you.
