Good place to start before turning to the forums. Glad to see MS supporting FSX better then they did with the previous versions.
Still waiting for my B'day to get here for FSX, but I enjoy the demo.

My Letter to Microsoft: I do not have a Product ID because I have not opened the box.
When FSX was first advertised it was supposed to go hand and hand with Microsoft Vista. A lot of people will not upgrade their computer to Vista, but would rather just buy a new computer. I am afraid to use my copy of FSX because I know I will be buying a new computer when Vista comes out. Will we be able to transfer our copy of FSX when Vista is released? I purchased FSX the day it was released but I am not opening the box, until I find out if I can put it on my new upgrade computer.

Skip, if you think logically for a second, then yes, you will be able to transfer your FSX to the new rig. I seriously doubt MS would prohibit that since they want Vista sales and they want FSX sales. Imagine the revolt if everyone that has FSX now went out and got Vista when it was released only to find they couldn't activate it

I think maybe you are right. While looking for the product license, I found this:
Games: Error message: The product key is not valid
You can use one product key on one computer. If you are trying to install the game on more than one computer, purchase more copies of the game.
•If you recently purchased the game and then receive this error message, return the game to the point of purchase to obtain a replacement.
•If you purchased a new computer or upgraded the computer, try to activate the product by using telephone.

Hi Michael, not ubtil Nov 11.:banghead: That's what I get for telling the wife about the forthcoming FSX. She said it would make a good present. Next time, I keep my mouth shut.

WTF? is that written in the box? man!, now what?, they are controlling what i can and what i can´t do with something i purchased??
If this is an anti-piracy measure, i´m sure those bastards already know how to crack it, it´s us honest consumers that always get the boot!!
I hope MS is open minded enough to listen to their customers and a patch is released..oh well...
Best regards

actually it has allways been illegal to use any flight sim
on more than one pc MS just never enforced it.
personally i have allways had one version in the office and one at home
never fly in the office just work on fd's etc
just figured one was an extension to the other,
Actually i believe they will allow one install on a desk top and a second on a lap top, in my opinion that is almost what i do
except 2 desk tops

I would suppose that when you de-install the sim it is de-activated automatically. Afterwards you could then install it on a new computer. Has anyone already tried this?

You know they went way out of their way to make sure no one could install it more than twice, but you think that someone would have or at least have visited eastern Washoington before creating the textures for the game! I mean, Yakima is in the desert, but its not in the Sahara! Maybe they should have worried more about making a realistic representation of the way the world looks rather than making sure no one steals it.. I am starting to think I wish I had never laid my eyes on it, there was more anticipation waiting for it to come in the mail, than actually use it now!!
I find it a little remniscent of CFS2...
I am just bummed, it will pass.. And I will probably get used to it! But, now I have to buy another hard drive to reinstall FS2004 on my new machine because that is where all my toys are attached to..

This activation thing is gettimg to me - on principle.
The other day some guy said he changed his graphics card DRIVERS and was required to re activate. This was reported by more than one guy.
This is not on, and MS are treating their customers badly if this is true.

I changed my drivers and didn't have to reactivate....

I have 3 computers and FS9 is on all three of them. I only ever use 1 at a time depending on who is using what. So am I going to have to buy another FSX so that I can activate on all three. As if Micro$oft doesn't make enough money!! As someone said in an earlier post, they probably already have a "crack" for it, and it is the honest users that get shafted. I hate GREED.
Rant over!

When I contacted MS Support on my installation issues they were very helpful and curtious. They even called me back several days later to see if the problem was corrected and if I had any other questions, etc. I was pleased as this was the first time I was able to speak to a MS Support person without it costing me.
