Thanks Harley, I think this may need to come as a late present !!!!

It works fine if you have a range of helicopter models.

I do have it but switch it on only in areas where there are plenty of helipads.

it is very nice

but it can harm FPS depending on what helicopter models you use with it

I guess there aren't many AI helicopters around ?

None, that I'm aware of - but there is a demo of it, which works at a US helicopter base, which I'd heartily recommend trying to see what you think. I got the demo off a PC Pilot cover disk, but believe it can be downloaded from the product page too?

It doesn't use AI helicopters, it uses SimConnect to drive flyable helicopters.

Not quite correct. I am presently using around 45 different AI helos.
Also I use Harriers from the MAIW website along with the occasional blimp.
Helipads are not required, you can place landing spots pretty much anywhere.
Gliders work too if you use the waypoint configuration (they don't land, just follow waypoints in the air you setup).

OK. It uses simconnect to drive any aircraft, treating it like a helicopter. :)

The big thing that you have to be aware of is that if you have a lot of very complex helos/Harriers/whatever clattering around your head it'll murder your frame rate.

It's a very good tool with a lot of very useful features, but the same as "conventional" AI, you will need to be careful what models you use it with. 40 Nemeth Super Pumas all loading at the same time at Aberdeen in bad weather will make for a worryingly realistic, but not very practical to use, scenario. ;)

I think the point being that models designed for AI use specifically would be ideal since normal models will usually kill your framerates. ideally you would want to use models (MDLs) designed for AI (low poly, LODs, etc), but set up as flyable, that way you get more choices and better performance.

It's a great app, had it for quite awhile now and love it.
If you don't mind the usual visual issues, there are some great FS9 models that work well, including AI apaches, chinooks and an S-76.

I will give it a go on the new rig when it comes and experiment with some of the fs9 models.

Cheers guys
